| Ruptured Achilles Tendon Recovery
I ruptured my achilles tendon May 7, 2009. I had surgery on May 16th. The Dr. said that my tear was unusal because it tore in a zig/zag. I didn't have to have any screws put in though. I was in a splint for 2 weeks and a cast for 6 weeks. All of it non-weightbearing. I wore a boot for 6 additional weeks. I began therapy after 2 months. The problem I'm having is pain on the bottom of my foot. It feels like I'm standing on a nail if I stand for more than 10 mins. I also have a heel spur on the back of my heel that was bothering me before the tear. The Dr. didn't remove it when I had my surgery so it is also painful when I walk for very long. Has anyone else had this surgery and do you, or did you have pain on the bottom of your heel? I am a teacher and spent the summer recovering, but now I'm back to school and on my feet all day! Of course they will no longer give me pain medicine so by afternoon I'm miserable! I'd appreciate any help you could give me!
