| Re: What is the risk of a bunion surgery?
lucil39 - I'm 54 and had bunionectomies on both feet in 2009, the most recent was Dec 8. My surgeon said the biggest risk is non-union of the bones, but it's a low risk. I think most people that have problems try to walk on their foot too early. I've carefully followed my surgeon's orders and am healing right on schedule.
My mom is 75 and she is going to have bunionectomies on her feet this year after seeing how well I'm doing. Luckily I happened to find the best foot/ankle surgeon in my area, but I do recommend getting references for any doctor you decide to perform your surgery.
Good Luck!
