Hello,
I am hoping to get some feedback regarding pain after heel surgery. My husband crushed his left heel about 18 months ago. He spent 2 weeks with it elevated to reduce swelling and then surgery to put in a plate and pins. His dr had dealt with this type of injury before and I felt he did a good job. It was about 4 months before he could put total weight on it again. Then 8 weeks of physical therapy. When the accident first happened he had great discoloration and swelling. Then after surgery when he started to put partial weight on it there was swelling of the calf. They checked him for blood clots and there were none. Eventually the swelling eased. But now he is 18 months post-surgery and still has pain. He lost some mobility and has trouble with stairs. In the morning he can barely walk, it stiffens up when not in use and the pain is constant. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced similar surgery and was left with chronic pain. The dr said it may take 2 years to be the best he will be. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
