I am feeling great 12 months after flat foot reconstruction surgery. That's the good news. Now for the bad news; Last Tuesday, my husband tripped and did something to his ankle. The ankle is swollen, red and painful to the touch. There is a pronounced red/black line extending from the midfoot to the start of his toes. He went to the podiatrist on Monday. Films didn't show any fracture but the doctor said that my husband obviously injured his ankle. The doctor suspects either a stress fracture that is not evident on the xrays or tendon/ligament damage. My husband is in a soft cast until next Monday when we go back to the doctor to see if an MRI is indicated. My husband walked from the car into the library today and is now in a lot of pain. Now he is starting to really understand what I went through last year. I guess that now it is my turn to wait on him. Agghh just can't win
Oh my gosh...I'm sorry! For him and you! Yes, now he might see a little small part of what you went through. Are you up to having to take care of him? (hahha...remember...I'm only at 14 weeks this friday...and after 3-4 hours with my foot down I'm exhausted!)
Roxygirl: I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Does it ever end??? Are they going to have him get an MRI? Hopefully it is a stress fracture and he will not need surgery.
My husband was finding that he was starting to get shooting pains even wearing a cast. We went back to the doctor. He took the cast off and the ankle was a lot more swollen. The doctor now suspects that my husband might have injured the ptt. What copy cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not funny but then again in a way it is. My husband is a typical male. I had to force him to go to the doctor to check things out. I don't know if you ever watched Monty Python...but the line "It's only a flesh wound" when a limb is hanging on by a thread reminds me of both my husband and sons additude towards their health. My husband never takes tylenol for pain but just toughs it out. We forgot to ask the doctor for an rx for pain meds yesterday. Last night he was so uncomfortable that we looked in the cabinet and luckily found some rx pain meds that he had left over from a previous proceedure.
I am so sorry your husband is going through this. Men definately try to tough it out! On one hand he is really lucky to have you. You truly understand his pain and can understand what he is going through.
