I'm really beginning to get really discouraged in this recovery process!!! I just want to scream and wish this was all a bad nightmare. I'm 6 months post flat foot reconstruction. The past few months I've had lots of tightness in my calf/gastroc muscle. Well now the past few days the tightness has expanded and includes the arch. So now every time I step I get a lots of pain and cramping from the arch of my foot, through the heel, all the way up my gastroc muscle to the crease of my knee. My physical therapist says the fascitiis band is very tight along with the muscles. We keep trying to stretch them but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
I called my surgeon a little bit ago but he is in surgery this afternoon and won't be returning my call until tomorrow morning. I also called my therapist to find out if she thought muscle relaxer would help. She thinks there is a good chance that it would and said that depending on what the doctor says tomorrow that she can call him as well to see how it should be handled. Has anyone here been on muscle relaxers after flat foot reconstruction?
I remember experiencing a lot of tightness in my calf and heel at 6 or 7 months post op. As I did more walking, I noticed an increase in tightness. I can't remember if it extended into the arch; however I remember panicking when I started to get spasms and sharp pains in my arch. At 9 months, all of those symptoms did subside. I would definitely talk to the doctor but remember that 6 months is still early in the recovery process.
Thanks Roxy, that makes me feel better! My therapist has plenty of experience treating patients who have had the surgeries that I have but said its rare to have as many as I did all at once. So its hard for her to judge if its a normal recovery process. She said that I haven't been able to make that much progress in the past few months because of all the set backs I've been having.
Hopefully between the doctor and her we can decide what the best course of action is going to be. She was also talking about ultra sound treatments - did you have any of those done while you did PT?
I was on flexeril (muscle relaxant) while I was in the cast. I went off it for a while, but found my overall pain was much less while on it so I'm taking it again. Hoping to avoid any more ripped tendons!

lightstepper - That is what my surgeon put me on this morning - Flexeril 10mg. He wants me taking it three times a day but the two doses I've taken so far has made me super drowsy. Does the drowsiness get better the more you take it?
I get used to the drowsyness, but I only take 10mg 2 hours before bed time so it has worn off for the most part by morning. A "foggy brain" can stay with you throughout the day though.
