I am sorry that your surgeon makes you feel the same why mine does. I really know that frustration. I had to come to these boards for support. I hope that the drilling works for you and that you don't have to have another surgery! Let me know how that goes. My surgeon told me that I was too far gone and not really a candidate for drilling so I had to go straight to OATS (He took the bone and cartilage from my knee and broke my ankle and stuck it in there and screwed it back together, in short) You should definatly be in PT! Did your surgeon not send you? I know this is terrible but sometimes I wish my surgeon would have this surgery so that he could truely walk in my shoes.
I too had to come to this board for support which is ridiculous! So thrilled I found it though as I know u feel the same. My surgeon said most people do not go to PT for this surgery! Again, say what? Omg is all I can say. Ugh how horrible what u had and are going thru. So very sorry. We need to get support from each other. This board has helped me so much. Such wonderful people :-) I agree that all the surgeons should have a pre requisite to have this surgery before they r allowed to do it themselves. Jaha I know terrible too I said that, but really they should or take some classes on how and what to say to those who have had it other than making us feel hopeless and less than. U hang in there too girl.
Hanging in there. I call it torture therapy..lol. At least I now can walk for most part on one crutch wearing my rocking sneakers. Limping cause only haveb10% ROM but I keep on plugging. Geez it is now 13 weeks since surgery. At least after 7 PT visits I have gone from 5% ROM to 10. Such a slow go. How r u?
10% is definitely better. Glad things are improving for you even if it is a bit slower.
I am doing well. Three weeks post operation with very minimal pain. Got my sutures out last week and one of the incisions were not closed as was expected. Thankfully it has done great this week so hopefully the doctor agrees tomorrow. I am so ready to try PWB but a bit apprehensive too. Only three more weeks to go, hopefully it goes fast.

I am so happy for you minimal pain at this amount of time after surgery! Wow! I wish I started PT after 6 weeks but honestly don't think I would have been ready. I started at 10 weeks. Ok wish I started at 8 weeks. I have learned don't feel bad if think u should b further along.
I am not sure that I will start PT at 6 weeks. I have to wait that long to even start any weight bearing. I need to ask him tomorrow. My doctor is more on the conservative side so we'll see what he says. I am excited I can put my sneaker and boot on though. Love being able to wear a matching pair of shoes even if I am on crutches or on my knee scooter.

Yeah PT does sound early at 6 weeks. Glad your OS is conservative cause mine wanted me PWB in boot cast 4 weeks after surgery which was not only nuts but impossible. Haha I get it on the shoes. Keep me updated please after your Dr appt. good luck!
I started PT two weeks after OCD microfracture surgery, but
A) my doctor is a "cowboy" about starting PT early
B) I only had a arthroscopic. If I'd had OATS, I would have been NWB for at least 6 weeks
I wore the boot for about 6 weeks then a lace-up brace.
My appointment we well. He said the incision is pretty much closed but to come back again next week to make sure there is still no infection. I was a bit surprised when he mentioned I could be NWB for up to 8 weeks. I thought it was going to be 6. The great news is my ROM is already back to what I was prior to surgery. I never had a loss so that is wonderful. As far as PT goes, he said I may need a few appointments but may not since I am doing so well on my own. I will definitely be asking to go since I want to get back in the gym.

My podiatrist's philosophy is that returning to motion and PT quickly helps shape new cartilage at the microfracture site. However I don't know if he gives the same recommendation to all his OCD microfracture patients. And his recommendation is not typical, as most doctors specify waiting 4-8 weeks before PT. Some recommend starting ROM exercises (without weight bearing) sooner.
I think the debate is more NWB time gives the bone a better chance to heal but rapid return to PT can mean less atrophy or joint stiffness.
Wile my doctor still has me NWB I have been doing ROM on my own with his encouragement from day one. I Have only been flexing the Andy up and down as of yet. Plan to start the alphabet soon, and see what else I can find online.
