hey, I hope someone can help..I am an active 16yo who has had many foot problems for over 4 years, no doctor can seem to tell me what is wrong.
recently I have been getting spasms and cramping between my heel and big toe, at the same time my big toe and middle toes lock out. My toes always seem to be swollen and red, and I find it hard to fit them in my shoes!!The pain becomes so bad that I often wake during the night and find it hard to walk some mornings. I have had to stop playing my sports as it has become so bad.
someone please help, would be appreciated!
"Cramping" caught my attention in your posting. Your situation sounds a bit different than mine, but thought I'd share my experience with foot cramping with you in case it helps you in some way. My foot cramps began when I was a teenager (I'm 57 now - old - ha ha). They continued well into adulthood, and to this day. I realize mine were due to various reasons:
1. tight/small shoes
2. back problems - that can trigger toe cramps
3. Morton's neuromas (that does not sound like what you have - I'm not a dr. but it does not sound like it to me - that is usually between toes/interspaces on top of foot and rarely the big toe.
Also consider tendons, plantar fascia, area etc.
Ask your dr. if your magnesium levels are okay (I doubt that is the main problem, but mag. can help some people's cramps)
My suggestion is to see a good physical therapist and/or osteopath. They seem to understand these things more. I don't now where you live, but the PT place I go to is very different from a standard PT place. Mine has been very helpful with my foot cramps - they do a lot of myofascial realease, muscle energy techniques. My guess is certain exercises could help too.You could do a serach for Desert Light Health Associates (the main one is in CT in Bloomfield). Defiinitely consider PT before ANY surgery - foot surgery is tricky and can lead to other problems - that's my opinion anyway. Good luck - feel free to replay if necessary.
I have been checked for mortons nerurons as it runs in my family, but there was nothing shown on the test. No doctor seems to be able to help so am going to go private. I have made an appointment tomorrow and will check in regards to magnesium levels etc and see what is said!

Good luck - hope it all works out. I think the physical therapist will help - if they send you to one at some point.
Just one extra tip (as I look back to when I was a teenager -)
Be sure you are wearing good shoes and have good padding and arch support. You don't want a neuroma!! The neuroma surgery, in my opinion causes more problems - they wrecked my feet. As I look back, I wish I never wore tight shoes.
Good luck - foot cramps are the pits - I'll be thinking of you and wishing you the best!
