| Should I get subtalar fusion?
I have been suffering with foot/ankle problems (non stop) for over 3 years. I have 5 pairs of custom orthotics, UCBL, AFO and a closet full of OTC devices. I've been underdiagnosed/misdiagnosed by some of the best specialists in Philadelphia all of this time.
I believe I am finally in the hands of a very competent specialist. He has informed me I have significant subtalar joint pronation. He will try to make an adjustment to my orthotics, but told me I may need to consider fusion surgery.
My ankle is barely able to support itself. I can't walk without significant pain that runs all the way up to my knee/hip.
I am 65 years old and overweight. I am worried the subtalar fusion will cause more problems given my age and weight. Luckily I do NOT have arthritis in my foot/ankle.
I'd be thankful for any feedback on the fusion given my age and weight challenges. I am inclined to try the orthotic adjustment but I the cycle of pain will restart any time I take my orthotic out.
