re: My PTTD Surgery is Scheduled

Hi Erin,

Be careful being home by yourself. I am a little afraid of that myself. My husband took off the week after the surgery so hopefully I can learn to get around a bit in the house. Ginger that's a good tip of icing in the back of the knee. I will write that down and place that in my basket. I started a "healing" basket and I put in books, magazines, pens, address list, thank you cards and I will put in water bottles, snacks, etc and leave it next to the couch downstairs. I think my cousin said she can come too for a couple of days. So hopefully it will go well. I do not know what type of anesthsia I will be having yet I have my pre-op on Dec. 20th and I have not heard from the hospital yet. My pre-op is with my primary care doctor. I guess pretty soon I will have the answers to my questions. I keep thinking it is far away. I am home for the next days. We have these days off so I will check in on you Erin throughout the day and keep you company. Making sauce for dinner and doing some things around the house. Take care.

re: My PTTD Surgery is Scheduled

Hope you find some relief Erin! Not to scare you but be cautious of calf pain. That is one of the warning signs for clotting. If your leg becomes hot and extremely painful in the calf call your doc. Does he have you on lovenox shots or coumadin or anything? I'm sure you're probably fine but keep an eye on calf pain. It is probably just residual pain from being moved.

Best wishes to you!
~Kimberly

re: My PTTD Surgery is Scheduled

LadyKanner,
Nope he didn't give me any shots all I got was antibacterial meds and pain meds. I'm exercising the leg so hopefully I won't get the blood clot. I'm so ready to be out of the splint its uncomfortable. Are u finally out of yours? What are you in now? How many more weeks do u have until u can walk on it? I have until February for me be able to walk again on my foot. If your in a boot is it more comfortable? Did the stitches hurt when u got them out? Did it make u sweat getting them out? Sorry I know a lot of questions.

Thumbs up re: My PTTD Surgery is Scheduled

I was on lovenox shots and coumadin after my surgery to prevent clotting. I just went back to the doctor this morning because I was having popping. My fusion is not taking so he decided today I need a second revision surgery. It will probably be the end of December/Early January. I am in a walking boot right now. I never had to wear a splint after my surgery (it was in April). I woke up in a fiberglass cast. I was only in a cast recently because he was trying to get the fusion to re-fuse after it was broken in physical therapy.

Stitches didn't hurt much. Maybe a sting here and there. Some people have horror stories for stitches. Mine wasn't bad. Oh I sweat my butt off the first few times I went to the doctor. I know part of it was that it was summer time but also your nerves working up and i think the pain meds add to that. The first time I had to go in was 4 days post op because my cast was too tight. I thought I was going to pass out. I got to the cast room (at the very back room) and I thought I was going to die. She cranked the AC when I was in there for me.

Don't stress too much about the stitches. You'll be okay.

re: My PTTD Surgery is Scheduled

Oh Lady K I am so sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery. Probably around the same time I have mine. What a long process. I am beginning to get very nervous thinking I should "chicken out." I know, however, it will eventually give me back a quality of life because I can't walk long distances or do much these days. Work really exhausts me by the end of the day.

re: My PTTD Surgery is Scheduled

You can't chicken out Cinder. You can be my surgery buddy. My situation was just a fluke. Erin: pain pills can do some "clogging" if you know what I mean. May need to get some stool softener if you have issues.
