Hi!
I just had surgery for hallux limitus, which involved cutting & repositioning the first metatarsal bone with 2 screws, as well as removing the dorsal bunions. I found the surgery itself a surprisingly low-stress experience. Everything was fast, the doctors seemed to know what they were doing, and I experienced pretty much no pain whatsoever.
Today is day 3 of recovery, and I'm still finding the pain quite manageable with the help of my friends the painkillers. My concern is the swelling. I'm elevating and icing the foot constantly - even elevating a little while I sleep, but the swelling is such that my bandages feel tight, and the tip of my big toe, which is sticking out from the bandage, is so tight it feels like the skin might split. Is this normal? When can I expect swelling to go down? Any experiences out there?
