Results of my MRI confirm that I have a high-grade partial tear in my plantar fascia. The podiatrist I saw was terribly unhelpful in instructing me on how to heal this. He never even looked at my foot!!! I'm in a lot of pain right now. I was given a walking boot and I still have my crutches from the ER. The podiatrist said I didn't need to use the crutches and I would only need to stay on the walking boot for 2 weeks. But, I'm in so much pain! They gave me Percocet but it doesn't do anything for the pain in my foot. Just gives me a euphoric feeling in my head and then hours later eats away at my intestines.
If I put any weight on it I feel pain that lasts for hours. There's no way I can just use a walking boot. I have to keep using the crutches, right? What is supposed to be the proper treatment for this? I can't find anything clear online.
I start physical therapy on Tuesday and I plan to ask the therapist her opinion. Do you happen to know what I should be doing to make the pain go away and get better?
By the way, if any doctor tries to talk you into getting cortisone shots for plantar fasciatis, carefully think it over. An idiot podiatrist gave me 2 cortisone shots and failed to tell me it weakens the ligament. So, one night while exercising I heard a pop and now I have a tear and massive pain.
hi, I'd go see an ortho that specializes in the foot area. I've had the PF release surgery and am doing fine btw. You may have to have surgery but not sure what they wlll do. Cathy
Similar story - although I also had a fracture of 2nd metatarsal.
Please, please go see foot/ankle orthopedic specialist. I went to podiatrist first and got similar advice. Only after going to ortho did a real plan develop. I did end up having surgery to correct all the issues; 8 weeks later have started PT and doing very well. Only NWB for 2 weeks. Good luck!
I also highly recommend (as an RN and a patient who's had 2 ankle surgeries, 5th met fracture and PF) that you see a board certified foot/ankle orthopedic surgeon, not a general OS or a podiatrist. If you can't walk on it without a lot of pain, stay on the crutches. Also, if you are allowed to take the boot off (other than to shower) then do a LOT of icing. Good luck and let us know!
That sounds terrible. I don't have anything to add other to say I hope your physio has some good answers for you as well. A good physio can be a godsend in situations like this. Sounds like resting it will be a good start. Pain is there for a reason, and is a messenger on how to treat your injury.
