Re: wish me luck

Hang in three Paula! I can agree with everyone that there are days that get so frustrating. Days you just wanna get up and walk to the bathroom rather than crutch or scoot.

I spent the day out with my boyfriend and his daughter. I had a great time but 12 hours was too long! My toes look like Vienna sausages and the cast is tight. Knees are killing me from the scooter but it was all worth it.

I do get tired of being looked at like a freak show on the scooter. Haha. People generally are very curtious and always offering to help.

I am using my bone growth stimulator as I type. We were gone leaving me not able to use it earlier. Just as long as it gets done is all that matters.

Keep your head up and make the best of your situation.

Later taters!
~Kimberly

Re: wish me luck

Ginger, i didnt know which thread to post this on so I hope you see this. Is today your appt? I wanted you to know I am thinking of you today. Tomorrow is my appt. I had my little grandaughter over to visit me last night, she is my dolly. I got up early today and took smelly breath doggy to the vet for his dental cleaning. I honestly have been worried becase they had to knock him out and he has a very sensitive stomach. I worry about the anesthesia. It is after 11am and no one has called so he is ok Im sure. I have to wait ubtil 2pm to call and check up on him. My daughter is coming over to clean for me today. Thank God! These men I live with are not housekeepers. I wish I had better trained my sons when they were little how to clean a house. Oh well. Too bad the three girls are gone and the two boys stayed. It would be better the other way. I know my youngest son is looking to move out soon. He just got hired full time at his part time job so now he needs to find a roomate. There is no way in this country that someone earning 10 bucks an hour canhave their own place., at least not around here. It cost $800 a month or more just for rent, never mind heat electric etc. Makes it hard to start out without a college degree and a masters or phd even! Have a great day friend! Paula

At the doctor right now! Just got the post op dressing off. Looks pretty good. Stitches were dissolvable so that was a piece of cake.

Re: wish me luck

Vet bill including pre op visit $649.00. Unreal. Hope he feels better and he already has better breath! I have been taking the boot off and resting my foot on a pillow every day and now that my feeling is coming back to normal I am noticing that the outside of my foot where thry broke my heel and put in the screw is totally numb. It has no feeling on the skin it feels like it was shot up with lidocane. I hate it. I hope this is temporary. Anyone else have this after almost 7 wks? Just wondering. I will be sure to ask my dr tomorrow. Little grandaughter is coming back over tonight. She loves gramma!

Re: wish me luck

Crazy bill there!! I have a lot of numbness down the side of my foot up on the top and one numb toe still. It drives me batty. I keep my toes wiggling all the time and when I didn't have a cast on I would massage te numb areas to stimulate the nerves. Have fun with your grand daughter!

Re: wish me luck

Hey Paula, have you got a clean house and a good smelling dog? 11 teeth pulled? Poor little thing. You'll have to spoil (him?) with lots of yummy soft food. One of my cats is missing a lot of teeth and once I found out it was wet food only for her. Now she's spoiled rotten. Isn't that funny about pets? I always feel so bad when they're sick, I guess it's like babies, they can't tell you what's wrong. Anyway, I always fork over whatever the vet asks for, it's worth it.
I hope your appointment goes well today! Let us know as soon as you can.
Ginger

Re: wish me luck

Paula, I hope your pup is better soon! It's always hard with animals, but at least they for sure appreciate being spoiled. Hope he is better soon.

My good news: I drove 6.5 hours by myself to a wedding in Upstate NY, spent the whole weekend moving about and doing things (even "dancing" on my knee scooter), and then drove the 6.5 back. Had a follow up appointment today. Cast was only 2 weeks old, but off it came. Got a few X-rays done, and it actually wasn't excruciating putting it down on the xray pad, I was able to put the tiniest bit of weight on it.

Doc looked at the x-rays and told me it's "healing like a gang buster". I'm not 100% sure what that means, LOL, but he followed it with that it's healing better than he could have hoped (I'm sure patting himself on the back for doing such a good job in surgery), and that I was going into the Cam boot today. Boy, you guys weren't kidding when you said it was heavy! Wow. But I was also told that I could start moving up to bearing weight, as long as I was in the boot. He didn't give me any specific percentages, just said as long as it doesn't hurt, I'm fine. Any tips on building the weight bearing back up? I asked about PT and he said not yet. I'm in the boot for 6 weeks at least. (That's when my next follow up is)

I have to keep the boot on for basically 23 hours and 50 minutes, but I can take it off to shower! Hooray, good bye pine forest on the leg, lol.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Liz

Re: wish me luck

The scooter is great. I really like it. It was great for the wedding I was at, I was able to get up and go out to the dance floor and everything. I'm hoping it means I can start going back to work soon too, so I'm not sitting around all the time. My sanity level can't take much more of this.

Re: wish me luck

Ginger, and Liz. Thanks for the posts. My doggie is still sre but he had some vanilla ice cream ( with his pill crushed in it) and that made him soooo happy. He is my constant companion and hasnt left my side for the last 6 weeks.
My appt went really well today. First thing he asked how I was doing and he knew right away he said "6 week blues eh?" I know it is to be expected but I guess this is usually when it hits. He said it looks great. The xrays showed the mega screw right up my heel and that pretty much gagged me! I hate having hardware even though it is necessay. I can start pt right away so I am going to call tomorrow to schedule it. I also got a prescriotion for a compression stocking. Real old lady stuff for this gramma. Best news is he said I can walk on it and just like you Liz, he said as much as I can tolerate. No percentages or pwb. I have to have the boot for 4 more weeks but I can sleep withoit it. He recommends riding the stationary bike as much as possible. The exercise from peddling is great for pt. I guess thats it for tonight. Take care friends!

Re: wish me luck

Ginger, things are looking up at least for now. I called and got my first appt for pt scheduled for monday at 10. Called my sister to order my compression stocking, she works for a medical supply co and emailed my manager to let her know that I am probably coming back to work on Nov 7th. God willing. I am sure I will be able to do it, it is just going to be a little hard at first. Not doing too much yet. I did change the sheets on my bed for the first time. My daughters have been doing that for me. felt goe to do it alone. My next step is washing some laundry maybe later this afternoon. My daughter is still bringing dinner over and tonight I get corned beef and cabbage (all irish I am). Ya I do feel a lot better since seeing the dr. I have decided to join the gym after my pt is completed. I want to lose about 20 pounds at least. I havent gained any weight since the surgery in fact I did lose about 7 pounds. I know thats because I work the night shift and we snack a lot! havent been snacking at all at night, just sleeping. Oh well that will end soon. Have a great night friend(s)

Re: wish me luck

Prico,
So you can sleep without the boot? How is it going? I have been sleeping without the boot for a few days now. I am now sleeping under the covers and not on top of the bed like I was. I have the sheets and blankets very loose. I noticed that I get body soreness from sleeping in one position, then I wake up to turn to another position. It is just not easy, but it is better sleeping without the boot then with it!
I have a big screw in my heel too! I can barely set my foot down on my heel while lying in bed (it hurts even on a soft pillow), it is very sore and sensitive. The PT guy told me to rub it a lot to get the entire sensation back into it. The one screw on the top of my foot is what made me want to throw up when I saw it in the x-ray. I can see it sticking up a little above my skin. EWWWW!
Are you walking on it yet? Did you start PT?
Jodi

Re: wish me luck

I have been ok sleeping without the boot but having my comforter on top seems heavy. It took some getting used to even though I hate how bulky the boot is it does protect the foot. My foot has been really sore since I started bearing weight not so much my heel as my ankle. I dont put too much pressure on my heel yet. I start pt on monday. I will let you know how that goes then. I got a prescription for compression stockings but it takes a week for them to come in after they order them. Those will be good for when I go back to work I'm sure.

Re: wish me luck

Hi Guys how is everyone doing tonight? I went to pt today. It didn't go quite like I expected. The therapist is very sweet and sympathetic to my situation. She was surprised by the extent of my swelling and sensitivity. She didn't want to touch it honestly. She measured it and didn't like those numbers. She said I have pockets of fluid that have to get worked out. She gave me exercises to do 3 times a day plus I have to ice it three times a day as well. So all this time being afraid to touch the I vision site and pampering those areas wasn't the thing to do. Now I have to get busy desensitising it. I couldn't get another appt until next Monday and from that point on I will be going twice a week until sometime in December. She also wasn't happy when I told he r I was scheduled to start back to work in three weeks. I hope I don't have to change that! So that's what I did today. Have a great night my friends.

Re: wish me luck

Doing just dandy! Went for a check up and xrays at the doctor today. He told me he saw some signs of bone growth but its not there. He said to stay in the cast another two weeks then to bring my boot to my next visit on the 29th. Said I will get to walk then should everything pan out. Crossing my fingers!!! Glad your PT was understanding and didn't push you into something you weren't comfortable with. Take care everyone!
