I broke my heel 6 weeks ago (was non weight bearing this whole time) and was just given a boot for walking and have to see ortho again in 2 weeks. The Doctor gave me the boot and told me hopefully in 2 weeks I should be able to walk in a shoe. I have tried really hard to walk in this boot but CAN NOT put full pressure on my foot without wanting to sit and cry. I have been trying to put full pressure on the front part of my foot but that really hurts also. I have been walking with the boot but with crutches and of course there is pain but I am dealing with it. I literally am doing one day walking on the boot one day off I feel I got no direction from the doctor other than ok go walk now. Am I just a complete whimp by not being able to just get up and walk in this boot? Anyone else had this issue? Please help I am not normally so sensitive but this has knocked me out.

Reason: I should note that I was non-sergical due to no displacement
I am not a doctor but in my opinion, if the pain is that severe your doctor should be contacted. I can understand some pain but if it is so intense it makes you cry, you should call. It's better to be safe than sorry. If you're concerned you will get the same response, seek a second opinion. It won't hurt anything to have another doctor take a look at it. I wish you the best and hope you get some results soon. You've come to the right place. This forum is a great place to talk to people and get some input. A lot of us keep in contact with eachother on a daily basis. It is a good support group to have people to talk to that are going through the same thing. Keep us up to date and let us know how you're doing or what you find out.

Hey Kelly, has your doctor said anything about physical therapy? And for sure, like Kimberly said, get a second opinion if you can't get any more help from your doctor. Maybe there is someone else in his office that could help you. Very often the techs have more practical advice. Good luck, don't give up!

@Ginger62...He has not mentioned it at all which surprised me because over the course of many years of serious sprains to my ankle I have always done PT. I have been trying to do the exercises that I have done in the past even prior to being told I can bear weight as that I was not casted only had compression wraps over the 6 weeks. I just feel like he has waved his wand and said "now you can walk" and just expects that I will be up walking 3 miles the minute I left the office. Just so very frustrated, and in my head child birth was easier than this...GRRRR...If I get the same answers when I call I will be seeking a 2nd opinion cause this guy is not the same caliber of doctor that I have seen in the past but thx to insurance this is where I ended up. Thx so much for your input!
@Zerk, Yes he told me to walk in the boot and see him in 2 weeks for another x-ray and he would see about being able to walk in a shoe at that time. Nothing about PT, I have been doing what I know to do from prior ankle injuries which is helping me to be able to walk in the boot but only with crutches I can't put full weight on it. I tend to walk more on the top of my foot rather than putting pressure on the heel cause that kills.
Update...tomorrow I am 5 months out from injury Ortho released me on 11/28 telling me completely healed and he didn't need to see me anymore...continued to seek treatment after that finding out first Thru an EMG all the nerves on the outside of my foot are being pinched (neurologist did this test) he then sent me to podiatrist and she did MRI and now I find out there is still a "SIGNIFICANT FRACTURE" in the heel...This jerk has had me walking on my broken heel for MONTHS!!! I told him everytime I went in that I am in pain everyday and when he released me he told me "well I told you it may never be the same, take 2 Aleve twice a day" and no further appointments are needed!!! I am so angry at this man for putting me thru so much pain, making me feel like a drug addict because the pain killers were the only thing helping me.....If you live in Chgoland area inbox me and I will be happy to share his name so that you don't ever go to this JERK!! Getting my medical records tomorrow and from there we will see what I do to make him miserable also!!!

I also broke my heel in 2 places. I am at week 5 today. My doctor also told me to start putting weight on my foot. Sometimes it feels ok, and other times it hurts really bad.
I am also having a lot of pain in my ankle, but the doctor doesn't seem to care about that.
I agree that if you are having a lot of pain when you walk, you probably shouldn't be walking yet. My doctor told me if I was having a lot of pain, to stop putting weight on it for a while.
I completely understand the frustration you are going through. I cannot wait to be able to walk normally again!!!! Best of luck!

I can definitely relate. I broke my heel 1-1/2 years ago. Due to my age I went through 7 months of a boot and 2 months of rehab. The doctor was never sympathetic and always made me feel like a baby. Remember, breaking your heel is like no other bone in your body. It hurts!!! It takes a long time to heel. I feel for you, but believe it, evidentually it will get better.
