Running with a triple arthrodesis in both feet

Im wondering if anyone having a triple arthodesis has been able too run afterwards.....my doctor claims I never will. My problem is im a part time police officer on the verge of becoming full time and running is a must!!!! I'm in a position right now of ending a career or living a life of pain. The only other option hes given me is too remove the tarsal coalition but he says its a 50/50 chance at partial relief versus the triple which he says will solve my pain issues but end my running.

Hi , I see you are from Mass. too. I had a triple arthrodesis done 8 weeks ago at NEB and while I can't answer your question about running I do remember readind a post on here about someone being able to run after having the procedure. You may want to contact that person . Go back a few years on this site and try to find the post. Who did your surgery? I go back in 2 weeks for an xray and then probably will go into a walking boot and start PT. I will ask my doctor and see what he says.

I wAs told I could return to playing softball but it wasn't recommended due to the stress it puts on the rest of the joint. The rest of tye joint will deteriorate at a faster rate after a joint is fuse.

Hi, I promised to discuss this with my Dr when I met yesterday and did. I even mentioned that you are a police officer. He said it is unlikely that you will be able to do any sports activity that requires jumping but he did say you will be able to sprint so maybe you will be fine in your Police Officer role. Since you are already a PT LEO will you still need to go through the physical ? If not you should be fine. Playing basketball and running 5 miles is not going to happen. I can tell you that I stood for the first time yesterday after 10 weeks of NWB and my ankle did not hurt. I am now full weight bearing using the boot and start PT tomorrow. Did you ever find the post about the runner who had this procedure?

Re: Running with a triple arthrodesis in both feet

Hey Mypuchyou
What did you decide to do? Did you have the surgery?
6 mos out now and walking just fine with a slight limp because of some tenderness at instep area but no pain at all. I am sure the limp will subside as the tendons get back to normal. Curious to hear back from you.
