Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist ....
I found them on this board! There was another poster who lived in Raleigh and had also been to Duke. She had her surgery done at Mercy instead. I'm sure the Dr. at Duke is great but his attitude didn't jive with me if you know what I mean. I was there for 4 hours filling out tons of paperwork (some of it very personal survey type stuff. I guess because they are a teaching hospital but it made me very uncomfortable). I had to wait 3 months just to get the appt. w/Myerson, but once I got in there it was a cakewalk. I had to wait til after summer for the surgery anyway (had been in an Arizona brace for 2 years at that point). Good luck! Please let me know how it goes!

Wow Joy, sorry you've had such an awful time with doc #1. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can get some answers soon. Look forward to hearing from you,,,,good luck!!
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist ....
Hi Joy, glad you left that first dr!! When you schedule your surgery after your appt, be sure to put yourself on the list for cancellations. My surgery was scheduled 4 months out, but it turns out I am having surgery on Friday (2 months early) because of a cancellation. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist ....
That is good to know. I'm not sure it would work as my case is workers comp. It took them over 2 months to approve the first surgery - I cannot imagine how long they will drag this one out. I have a lawyer, so if I do have
to have surgery - maybe he can make workers comp actually "work" a little faster.
Foot is pounding/throbbing/aching today. Some of it is the weather and some of it is becuase it's still so painful to drive!
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
Joy, you are going to the best doctors in the world! Dr. Myerson did a very complex surgery on me in October on one foot and we just did the other foot last week. I went to many doctors and even had surgery on both feet last year by another doctor who thought he knew what he was doing, he didn't. Dr. Myerson took out everything the previous doctor put in & started from scratch.
After 4 years, I finally feel like someone understands and actually knows how to fix it.
They will take you seriously and they will do everything humanly possible to fix it. I scheduled surgery during my first visit with Dr. Myerson. He did want a new MRI, but not before surgery was scheduled.
I had surgery on the 8th & I'm on zero weight bearing for at least 8 weeks.
Best of luck to you!!
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
Oh it is so good to hear all these things! I have been struggling for this
past year - since my surgery - and felt like nothing could be done to get me out of this pain, etc. You guys have given me hope again and reassured me that the pain is real and "not in my head" - thank you for that.
I am eager to see Dr. Jeng tomorrow, although I know I will be in a significant amount of pain when I leave - but it will be worth it - if he can figure out what is going on and take the next step.
My concern is workers comp. When I had surgery back in Feburary - I wasn't allowed to schedule a surgery date until they got the approval from workers comp. Then the doctor's office called me to set up a surgery date. I saw the doctor on the 12th of December - and wasn't able to schedule surgery until 2/22/12. So I am anxious about workers comp giving me a hard time about all of this......we shall see and I will hope that Dr. Jeng can give me some answers and help me through all this!
My foot/ankle has been pounding/throbbing all day, even with it elevated in a chair. It still KILLS me to drive long distances.... thankfully I have a friend, Judy, who is taking me to the appointment tomorrow. She took care of me after surgery last year and has "adopted" me as her daughter....so we'll see what happens tomorrow!
Thanks again for the reassurance and encouragement!
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
It's kind of odd that they didn't let you go to Mercy in the first place since you are right there in Baltimore. Could have done it right the first time, saved you a lot of pain and themselves a lot of money.
Stupid Feet, I'm glad you are of the same opinion about Dr. Myerson. I swear, after 5 minutes with him I was ready to sign up. You can just tell he knows what he's doing and is very confident (but not smug or condescending about it).Good luck with your new feet! They won't be "stupid" much longer.

Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
Hey Ginger - I am actually 2 hours south of Baltimore. I live in "southern" Maryland - basically I live in the sticks. The first doctor I went to is in Annapolis - where I work. I didn't trust the doctors down in my neck of the woods, etc. So I went to Annapolis - thinking I would have a better doctor - boy was I wrong. I wish I had gone to Mercy first - but didn't know anything about hospitals in Baltimore, etc.
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
Yeah, from Annapolis and seeing OS in Baltimore. Hearing your story, I am even happier with my choice. BTW, my son goes to college down your way -- SMCM. He loves it there!

That is cool about your son being down my way. SMCM is a great school - or so I have heard Tomorrow is the big day, keeping my fingers crossed and bringing my Tramadol with me
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
So sorry about your ankle. I totally get it as far as doing too much and then paying for it. I must confess I am generally in pain more often than not. Will be glad when tomorrow is here. Will let everyone know what the doctor says tomorrow.
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
Are you wearing a brace on your ankle? I had the same surgery in sept. I was nwb in a cast 6 weeks. Cam boot pwb as tolerated for a month, now in a form fitting brace. Significant pain still but my OS thinks I have developed RSD in my ankle so I have an appt next week. Are you back at work? Mines worker comp too but I hired a lawyer bc worker comp was giving me the run around.

Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist ....
I have a work comp injury as well and they have tried to drag their feet as well as trying to deny procedures. I try to let the doctors office deal with them until they start trying to drag their feet...then I will call my work comp case worker myself to get the ball rolling. If they start dragging their feet on this, call them and try getting it going. If they are still being uncooperative, then tell them you are going to hire a lawyer! Really, you should anyways with the injury that you have and with what you are dealing with!!! I didnt hire a lawyer for a long time after hurting myself...now I have an attorney and let me tell you, they haven't dragged their feet at all now!!!

Hey, thanks! I do have a lawyer, thankfully. I actually hired him before the surgery. He does get on them - at one point he has threatened to take them to court because they are moving so slowly on these appointments and stuff. It is completely ridiculous! Dr. Jeng did order another MRI today during my appointment - we will see how long this takes for workers comp to approve it!
Re: 10 months after brostrum - seeing an ankle specialist...
WOW, WOW, WOW. So I had my appt with Dr. Jeng a couple weeks ago and he ordered another MRI. Workers comp has been taking six - eight weeks to approve anything. It has been approved already!!!!! WOW! I have the MRI in Baltimore next Tuesday morning and see Dr. Jeng on Wednesday next week. This is incredible! So relieved. So hoping he can figure out what is going on with this ankle of mine and figure out what the next step (no pun intended ) should be!
