Yay, I think I can officially say I am done with crutches, at least while in the boot. For about a week or so, I've been able to go without them at home, still using them while out. I dropped down to one towards the end of last week, but realized I wasn't really using it at all and it was just in the way. Saturday I took them but left them in the car, Sunday I went completely without. I went to the grocery store, by myself, without crutches and did a real shopping trip (not just hobble in and grab the few items I can carry) for the first time in almost 9 weeks. Best feeling ever! I was on my feet a lot this weekend, and didn't have much pain at all. More swelling than usual, but a couple of Advil and ice easily took care of the pain and swelling.
Last night and this morning I was able to take a few steps without the boot, with no crutches. Only a few, but feels like huge progress.
It feels so good to feel like I'm getting back to normal life again, and finally feeling like there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I still have almost 4 weeks to go in the boot, but to do it without crutches makes it much more tolerable!

Yay!!! I am so happy for you!!! Maybe jealous...ha ha... That is inspiring!!! We all know it is doing the little everyday things that we take for granted....it will be great to do them again with out help!!

I'm jealous of anyone who is walking.... I've still got a loooooong way to go. Got out of a cast and stitches out today, was hoping to go into a boot- no dice. My range of motion would not allow it as I was casted in gravity equinus position and I'm too swelled up to go into another cast. Back in a splint for me!
Yay! You and Erin are the big winners this week! Just keep doing a little more every day. The importance of ice comes into play again. Do it as much as you can.
It's really a milestone, even if your friends and family don't appreciate quite as much as they could or should. Congrats!

I had a different surgery, but I'm 8 weeks post op and I still ice, especially at night. I don't ice as much as I did early on, but still do. I'd say as long as pain and swelling warrent it, I'm doing it.

I iced almost continuously the first two weeks, after that, I really cut back as my swelling was not terrible. Now that I'm walking, I'm back to icing at least once a day, sometimes twice or more if I'm on my feet a lot or on PT days. Since I can actually see my foot now I can see how bad the swelling is which helps.
