Thumbs up One Month Post Op-GREAT NEWS!

Had my two week check up today and got GREAT news. My joint is already fused 100%! You can't even see where there used to be a joint. As a precaution, he is going to follow protocol and keep me in the cast until mid March just to see that everything is hard as a rock. After all I have gone through he doesn't want to take any chances. I was so happy when I got out of the office I cried. It's been a long hard time full of stress and I am finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel! Thank you to all of you for your support!
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

~Kimberly

Congrats Kimberly, that is great and so fast. Best to take it cautiously. Looks like you had pretty much what I had done and I am now almost 20 weeks out and been walking in sneakers for over a month with a very slight limp that I am sure will go away. Swelling is almost gone. Once you are in a walking boot mid march you will start PT which I actually enjoyed. YOu will have a faster recovering than me. I was 10 weeks before the boot and you will be 6 weeks which is really fast.

Last time it took 12 weeks when I had it done before the re-break. This time he used a bone grafting putty that contained live bone cells mixed with my blood and filled the joint with that which stimulated bone growth.

Thanks everyone!

Re: One Month Post Op-GREAT NEWS!

Oh I'm SOOOOO happy and excited for you!! Bless your heart you've been through so much! So glad your doctor realizes all you've been through and is protecting you by continuing to follow protocol! That's awesome that its already 100% fused! Is that quicker than he thought? What's the normal time for fusion?

Re: One Month Post Op-GREAT NEWS!

Happy to hear you are healing well!! I have a question....when the ankle is fused do you lose rom? I know one Dr said that is what he usually does but he referred me on to another surgeon to avoid fusing it. I have never understood exactly what happens when they fuse the ankle. Dr said he would fuse my big toe after stealing the tendon for my ankle. I expected to not have much movement in it, but am really surprised it feels pretty normal.

Hope your recovery continues to go well!!

I missed this! What fabulous news!!! How cool that it fused to fast. I guess it's good he's being so cautious but I wish you were out of the cast already.
