i am pretty sure i have gallbladder sludge and some inflammation which they saw on ultrasound, although they didnt see any stones, i still need a HIDA scan. but, i get the typical pains in the right side and the back especially if i have eaten a fatty meal.
i am wondering if drinking wine or any alchohol can irritate the gallbladder also if you already have a gallbladder problem? anyone know anything about this, i appreciate any insight.
It shouldn't...unless the drink has fat in it like say a cream based drink...White Russians, etc. The gallbladder aids in digestion of fat so it shouldn't do much if there is no fat in the food or drink...
Before I had my surgery, I didn't have any problems with alcohol aggravating my pain. Actually, I was drinking just about every night to relieve my pain. Of course, I cannot recommend that, but it was the only thing that helped with the pain. When I saw the surgeon he gave me some fun pills to take in the week before my surgery, so I stopped drinking. But no, I didn't experience any increase in symptoms with alcohol.
I have not read anything on alcohol causing gallbladder problems. However, alcohol can cause liver, pancreas, stomach and duodenal problems just to name a few affected areas so maybe there is a chance alcohol could indirectly affect a GB.
