Post Gall Surgery - Gallbladder Message Board

Two weeks ago I had my gallbladder removed (I'm 20 years old) and I "get sick" after everything I eat and I continue to have the horrible pain in my ribs. I thought that this surgery was supposed to help, not increase my pain and sickness. My doctors keep giving me different meds to dull things and they are just making things worse. I have tried 3 doctors and they act like everything is in my mind. Has anyone had the same problems? Do you have any solutions or help???

I had similar pain like that afterwards and my surgeon just said that it was acid and me having trouble digesting fats. It eventually went away, but for awhile I couldn't have alcohol or anything spicy or fatty. Now and then I have phantom pains, but not too often. I feel fine now.

Callie: Had mine removed 6 weeks ago. Couldn't eat anything w/o lots of stomache pain...fasted for days. Went on numerous gallbladder boards and found out about plant enzymes. Imediately helped. I've had no trouble eating since then...I am on a low fat diet but by choice. I highly suggest these. The body struggles hard enough to digest food and now it's missing an organ that helped it do that ... plant enzymes merely aid the body in the digestive process. Goood Luck.

I had my gallbladder removed in February and was for the most part fine until the beginning of October. I started having attacks that were the same as before I had it out. They did tests that showed that my liver enzymes were elevated. My doctor set me up for an ERCP. That is a scope test combined with xray to check my bile duct for obstructions. They did the test the other day and removed 9 stones from my bile duct. They also found some polyps in my stomach that are " probably nothing" . At first I was angry at my surgeon for leaving stones behind, but my gastro doctor said that it is possible for them to form after removal of the gallbladder. I am grateful that they found something, my biggest fear was that I would wake up and they would say " Sorry, we didn't find anything, here's some more Vicodin, see you in 2 weeks." I am very confident that I will not have anymore attacks. I would recomend that if the pain does not go away, see about getting an ERCP done.

By the way, I had an abdominal ultrasound and CT that showed nothing before the ERCP.
