gallbladder issues.

Hi there, I normally post on the acid reflux site, but a new problem has come up for me. Ive had problems with nausea, cramping, burning and right sided upper abdominal pain off and on for some time now.

Ive had a couple ultrasounds done and they were normal. Had a hida scan done a few weeks ago and it showed that it would not empty. In fact, they wouldn't even administer the stuff that is supposed to make your GB contract because they couldn't find my small intestinal tract. Several hours later, it finally showed up on x-rays.

I am due to have it taken out in a couple weeks. Anyone else have their gallbladders removed even though it didn't have any stones?

I do have mild gastritis in my stomach and my dr's are stumped as to what is causing that as well. Im hoping at least some of my symptoms will improve after having the gallbladder out?

Any positive feedback is welcome. Thanks.

Nancy

Re: gallbladder issues.

Nal,
Hang in there. I like you have posted on other sites.. I have IBS and Gerd.
Have had similar problems with RUQ pain over the past year and almost constantly the last couple of months. I got another GI Doc who had me go through same old drill although he said that sometimes it is gallbladder even when the tests don't show it. I had another hida scan which was normal, CT scan which was normal. He referred me to surgeon who removed my gallbladder last Monday. I saw him this past Monday and he told me the pathology report came back stating my gallbladder was inflammed.

I feel much better now though I still have abdominal tenderness. I can pass these expereinces to you:
-If there is any lifting you need to do get it out of the way you will not be able to lift for a couple of weeks.
-Have a heating pad for after the surgery it is soothing.
-Don't' do a lot of stairs.
-I find it more comfortable to lay leaned back than sitting up.
-Wear very loose clothing for a while because you will find anything on your abdomen will be extremely uncomfortable.
-You will want to eat low fat mini meals and stay close to a bathroom until you find out what reaction your body will have to the changes.

Wish you well. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope some of the above info helps.
Crampster (1 week 2 days post op ... still a little tender if I do too much)

Thanks for the info. Did you have any burning pain with your gallbladder issues? I do in my intestinal tract and stomach. Now I do have a slight case of gastritis in the stomach as well.

Have any of your GERD symptoms improved since having it out? (may be too soon to tell huh)? What do they have you on to manage the pain?

I hope you have a very quick recovery. Did they do a laproscopic surgery or did they have to cut you open?

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Nancy

Re: gallbladder issues.

Nal,
Not sure in regards to burning. I know sometimes the pain felt like a stitdh in the side after running when it was mild... and more like a pitbull bit and the dog wouldn't let go when it was at the worst. In regards to the GERD it may be better hard to tell right know... it seems for a while it was hard to tell where one problem started and another began. For the longest time I thought it was all Gerd... then later when I started having issues with diahrrea I realized some of it was IBS. I can tell you one thing. For a while when you eat you may want to be close to a bathroom until you see how everything affects you. I went out to lunch with a friend today and had pains so bad I had to go home early. Once they remove the gallbladder the bile loses its holding chamber and it is easy to end up with diahrrea shortly after you eat. I myself am starting to thing if I eat out it will not be very often. As far as eating lunch at work I guess I will stick to vegies and mild lowfat foods and see if that helps.
They gave me Darvocet for the pain as I have issues with Coedine. Make sure you get plenty of pain meds and something for nausea just in case.
Wish you luck.

Re: gallbladder issues.

My holistic dr also recommends that I take Ox Bile once my gallbladder is out. Said this will help a lot. Who knows. The side effects of the surgery kinda scare me too.

Dont some people go back to a normal diet after their GB is out and they have recovered?
