I also have questions after gall bladder removal

I had mine taken out on tuesday (2 days ago) and I hurt a lot more then I expected. You don't realize how much you use those stomach muscles until they cut you. I thought this might be the same as the recovery from childbirth. NO WAY. This was much harder.

I had a terrible time with air they put into your body for the surgery. I was in severe pain, to point of tears, and couldn't get up out of bed until about 8 hours after the surgery. Then the pain was so bad under my left rib cage and up into my shoulders that I had trouble breathing. The nurse said that for some reason a lot of the patients within the past few days had a big problem with this.

My 4 incision area are kind of itchy. Is this normal?

Can anyone tell me how long it might be before I'm able to do "normal" things??? I've got 4 kids (2, 6, 8, and 12) and I'm having trouble getting help. DH had to take the 2 year old to work today but I don't think that will last for long.

One good thing. I was able to eat crackers shortly after the surgery and haven't had a big problem with nausea. I even ate an oatmeal square and a cup of coffe for breakfast, with no problems. Yippee!

Re: I also have questions after gall bladder removal

yes, the incisions should be getting a little itchy. I know this will be hard to do but one of the best ways to get that gas from the inflation to dissipate is to walk. Moving around will help...honest!

Re: I also have questions after gall bladder removal

Thanks. I have been walking, even though I'm kind of hunched over from the pain. Now my lower back is hurting. I am feeling better with each day and as I posted, at least I'm able to start eating without being sick. That was my biggest fear. I'm just taking the eating thing slow.

Re: I also have questions after gall bladder removal

Your lower back is sore from hunching over. I know it's a vicious circle, isn't it? You should be able to eat anything non fat and non spicey. I know you were nauseous before but the cause of that is gone - yea! I was having the same issue but could eat anything once the blasted little bugger was gone. It was so nice.

And everyone heals differently. I jogged 2 miles a week after having mine out...but I jog 4 times a week or more. So, I may be the exception. However, an 80 year old man from my church was walking on a treadmill the day after having his out! I could let him be better than me at 59 so I was out there jogging away....

Thanks. I know that everyone heals differently. I was playing softball 2 1/2 weeks after giving birth to my 4th child but I don't see myself doing that for quite awhile.
