Changes to bowels after gallbladder removal - Gallbladder Message Board

I am new to this board and have a question. I had my gallbladder removed in Sept. 2007. I had always suffered from constipation before my surgery and have continued to suffer from constipation since the surgery up until about a month or six weeks ago. Since then I have had loose bowels and stomach cramps. I saw my doctor and she said it is possible that it is being caused by the removal of my gallbladder but she thinks it would be unusual for it to wait so long after the surgery to occur. She thinks there may be something else wrong with me and has scheduled a colonoscopy. Has anyone else had this experience, that is, a delayed reaction to the surgery?

i have just had the same thing happen to me. i had mine removed 4 months ago and have just started having stomach cramps and loose bms and when i get the cramps i have to go right then. i assumed that it was to do with having no gb as bm colour changes from very pale sometimes to normal coloured other times. i will go and see my gp if it persists much longer as its making me worried about going out. would be interested as to what your docs think is going on.

This not unusual. It does happen at times. I went thru the same thing about 4 months after I had mine out. It was really weird...only happened in the morning after I ate cinammon toast with honey. Never any other time!
It finally sorted itself out. My doc gave me a scrip but I never filled it.

After you had your GB removed did the dr have you take bile salts? Thanks.

No, he gave me a scrip for chole-whatever. I forget the name but you take it like 30 minutes before eating.
