There are foods that help it function better, beets thin out bile and allow the fluids to flow better. Avoiding transfats and saturated fats also help keep the bile moving (and thus avoiding the build-up of stones). Artichokes are known to help the gallbladder contract. There are some herbs that help with bile movement and gb contraction.
That said, if you have stones and/or pain then you could make things worse by moving a stone out of the GB into the bile duct where it can get stuck. I've read you can also make it worse by going to a no-fat diet and letting the bile sit there and then stones form, so, sort of depends on your unique situation. If they've done the testing and there aren't any stones, then you can read up on gallbladder diets and look into natural treatments to hopefully delay it getting any worse, and maybe improving short term function.
