Talking Lost 8 pounds in a day with IV??? is this normal with me being malignantly obese

Hi There,

I got hospitalized for a gall bladder stone symptom in Dec 2010, I was put on IV and a pain killer injection for 24 hrs until all the preliminary tests were done. I had lost 8 pounds in 24 hrs by being only in IV fluids.

I need help in understanding this since my actual problem is am gaining around 4-5 pounds a month and extreemly worried to put down my weight. The weight loss in the hospital was a pleasant surprise for me. meanwhile the docs could not make out the reason of the acute rib cage pain i had(which was suspected as gall bladder issue). So i was discharged abruptly after 36 hrs saying there is no issue with my body to be worried about.

Please help me understand this, why did I lose 8 pounds all of a sudden????

Thanks
