Anyone take metamucil after gallbladder removed?

My gb was removed a little over a year ago. I still have pain on occasion and bloating also. I'd like to start taking a fiber supplement (metamucil) and am worried how it will effect my digestive system. I don't want to suffer with more bloating and gas. Has anyone who has the gb issues to dela with started on this fiber and how did it work out?

I had my gallbladder removed February 1, 2011, so I am almost 11 weeks post op and I am still bothered with excessive belching, bloating. I was using Metamucil but I am currently seeing a Colon/Rectal Specialist for other issues, he suggests switching to Citrucel because it supposedly does not cause the gas and bloating that Metamucil does. So far, it works for me.

I have used psyllium seed hush power for 28 years and most fibers will produce gas when you first start. But, with continued use the gas will go away. I like and use the pure psyllium power that I buy from the Vitamin Shoppe.

Citrucel is a semi-synthedic fiber and it works --producing less gas from the start but it cost more than natural fiber supplements.

I take Benefibre which has helped (had gb removed 4/08)...but I only take one (chewable) tablet a day (if I try to take more than one, I get fierce abd. cramps!)

I had my Gallbladder removed in 2008 and still get pains the pains can last yrs they are called phantom pains you can also still have gb attacks even tho it has been removed it just varies from person to person. When I had mine taken out the dr gave me a rx for questrine to help with bloating and gas as well as to thicken your bile salts. So I would ask about questrine

Re: Anyone take metamucil after gallbladder removed?

Is questrine also a prescription for lowering cholesterol? (maybe I'm thinking of something else???) You're right about phantom pains. I've had aches in that area starting a month after my gb was removed. Have had an ultrasound but nothing showed up (which is good!!) They say that people who did not have stones have a worse time of it after the gb is removed and I can attest to that!

Re: Anyone take metamucil after gallbladder removed?

I as well I did not have stones or sludge mine was just not functioning however now I am dealing with a whole other issue from having my gallbladder removed and I hope that you don't have to experience it as well. I am now having bile flow back up into my stomach from my small intestine as the pyloric valve has been damaged since I had my gb surgery so I am very ill lost 15 pounds in a month was like that for 6 weeks before anyone did anything now they are wanting to do this surgery called the roux-en-y which apparently is a major operation. I am 25 and this is a very awful and depressing way to live life let me tell you.

Re: Anyone take metamucil after gallbladder removed?

Since we have moved away from the original poster's question we should probably start a new thread (re: problems after gb surgery) which I'm going to do now.
