What is wrong??

hello, im a 16 year old female. i have been experiencing upper right abdominal pain under ribs for the past 8 months. I have the pain at least twice everyday. it feels like pressure under my ribs with occasional sharp pains, that also travel to my right shoulder/blade.i also have bad bouts of nausea that last for up to 12 hours and for the first 3 months i had a decline in my appetitie.

i have had an ultrasound that showed nothing abnormal and my gp has tried me on gaviscon for 2 weeks. after 5 months with no change he referred me to a gastroenterologist. she concluded that because i am 16 there couldn't be anything serious wrong and that i should ignore the pain for a further 2 months. she also stated that any tests would be pointless.

i should be happy with a clear bill of health, but im not because im still in pain every day.what could it be?

the 2 months of waiting are almost up and here has been no improvement, actually i think the pain may be slightly worse. the specialist has given me another appiontment but it is not for another 4 months. I dont think i can keep going like this.

does anyone else have any simular experiences or have any idea what could be causing my pain? the specialist said that i cant have gallstones as the ultrasound was clear, but are there other gallbladder problems that could cause these symptoms??

thank you x x

Re: What is wrong??

First of you need to be on a low fat diet until y ou get this sorted out. That will keep your gb from working too much. Then, you need a test called HIDA Scan (pronounced Hi-duh). It will test for gb function. A score below 35% or above 75% is considered non functioning. Now I will say that people from the UK who have posted here seem to have trouble getting one there. Evidently it isn't used as much as it is here in the US.

Re: What is wrong??

thank you for the advice. it does seem that it isnt used as often here, my specialist never mentioned it, only talked about ct scan and repeat ultrasound. i might just have to speak up and ask about it myself rather than waiting until she decides i have waited long enough.
