Orange poop: gallbladder or carrots?

Hi all,

So, in the past week, I've had two attacks (lasting 3-5 hours) of what I believe to be gallstones. I had an urgent care appointment with a doctor who ruled out pregnancy, appendicitis, etc., and an ultrasound this morning to rule out gallstones. No results yet.

But as of Monday, the day following the second (and much worse, something I didn't think possible) attack, my poop is quite shockingly orange, and I think getting oranger. Monday morning I was terrified to eat anything with fat in it because of the attack, so I had about a cup of steamed diced carrots for breakfast. When I had orange poo later I wasn't terribly surprised, but all of my bowel movements since have been orange (and soft/diarrhea).

Would a cup of carrots change poo color for several days, or could this be related to the gallbladder issue? See, I'm wondering if I should follow up with the urgent care doctor by phone ASAP to tell her, or if I should wait until she calls with my ultrasound results, or if I shouldn't bother mentioning it at all.

Thanks for any advice you can give! And I apologize for the poo talk. ;P

It could be your diet. I'd lean more towards that actually. but that doesn't mean you don't have gb problems.

Re: Orange poop: gallbladder or carrots?

Yeah, I just got a call from the urgent care (who received the radiology report) and I do have gallstones. Who knows if it's carrots or bile or whatever. XD I told them about the orange poo just in case, but now I have to follow up with my GP for consideration of a cholecystectomy. Wooo...

It's a fairly easy surgery. You should do fine. Just don't eat any fat from now until a couple of weeks after surgery. You'll be fine.
