Great question. Mine came back after my body wasn't fighting a non-working organ and all the pain. I'm even sleeping better. :-)
In the meantime, check out the thread about "two days after surgery" and follow some of the eating guidelines while you wait.
I found unlike others, that diet soda really helped me. I needed to burp and it would clear the pain for awhile. :-)
Avoid fats *low fat if you must*, avoid alcoholic beverages, and when it doubt, leave it out of the mouth. If you can get in some easy to digest veggies, it may help turn your poops greener.
Seriously, think about what goes in and how it's going to taste if you have to puke it up. That will aim you to a blander diet while you wait for the doc. Drink lots of water, de-caf drinks worked for me, too, even diet root beer and clear soda.
You might even try putting another pillow underneath you, as if you were just treating a case of heartburn, to help you sleep.
Lots of people fight a failed gall bladder through diet and exercise. However, when there's pain involved, it usually means somethings too far amiss, like a gall stone, and a medical intervention is required. Yay for setting up a doc appointment.
Not to scare you... however, if you keep having that stabbing pain, if you get blood in your stools, feel dizzy or dehydrated, or just feel worse, a trip to the ER may be what your doctor orders. (Let someone else drive.)
Take care.
