Explain meds that say "Take With Food" - General Health Message Board

I was started on a new medication (Eurythromyacin) and it clearly stated "Take With Food ": may cause stomach uspet. So, I took a pill and ate lunch.
Well, a few hours passed, and now I am sick as a dog.

I don't know if this is the result of my illness or maybe taking the medication the wrong way.
I went to the Dr. because I thought I had the flu, and he suspected I had Bronchitis, thus putting me on an antibiotic.

Now, I'm vomiting and have an upset stomach. Any ideas? What is the "right way" to take a medication "with food"? Before eating or after?

When you mean sick as a dog, what do you mean? Are you having diarrhea, or nausea/vomiting? Either way, you've found out the hard way that erythromycin can be hard on the stomach...that's why they say take it with food. The best thing for you to do would be to eat your lunch, and take the pill 5-10 mins after you're done eating.

Thank you for your reply. In response, I've had a lot of stomach problems prior to taking the antibiotic, such as nausea, vomiting, gassiness, some diarrhea, and even the urge to "go", but not being able to, and also, painful cramping. I guess it'll take a while for my stomach to get used to the pill, but I wonder which is worse: the ailment or the cure? Hmmmm....
