| Re: Pelvis Fracture
After menopause and the lessening of estrogen as we get older is bone density loss. With worse loss, this becomes osteoporosis. Without an adeqate diet in calcium and some kind of exercise, this can continue and leave the bone thinner making it easier to fracture. Why people in their 70s and older suffer more fractures than if they were younger. With most it is from a fall but the injury can be caused by other ways too. This is probably why it happened the way it did.
Some people do not even know this thinning has happened until an injury has occurred. There are bone density tests that can be taken to find out how far it had gone. Women, because of their diets, habits or genetics (if osteoporosis runs in the family) are more prone to this than the men...but they get it too.
When taking a college Women's Strength class, there were some older women there who wanted to increase their density to prevent just this sort of thing. One of the benefits of Resistance training is to help build bone mass along with muscle tone. That and a good diet.
