Re: Hot, Red Ears

Sounds like it could be an allergy...perhaps a food allergy. If it keeps up maybe you should talk to the doc about it.

FINALLY....A person with the same problem as me. Mine get hot as well. Im not sure what causes this either. I think it might be stress related. I know sometimes when I clean my ears or if I play around with my 2 year old son (wrestling around and stuff) they sometimes get red and hot. Any suggestions out there?

Re: Hot, Red Ears

It can definitely be stress related. It's a reaction the same as flushing....but pressure/heat/alcoholic drinks/spicy foods/physical exersion/excitement/hormone changes (perimenopause)...etc cause it as well.

If it happens and your stressing thoughts keep it going, you might be able to stop is by just touching the ear with the VERY LIGHTEST touch around the outer edge. It can kick in another response and get the blood to move from the surface of the skin.

I get that on my hands, and even though alcohol/heat/spicy foods can start the reaction.....the distress of it (thoughts) fueled the cycle and continued the red hands. Cognitive therapy helped, and I started the really light stroking, almost tickling (inconspicuously) started them to cool down and end the cycle. Cold water helped as well....but that's not always available!

Just try not to worry about it unless it doesn't stop.

Hope this helps.

Re: Hot, Red Ears

Could be a sensitive sympathetic nervous system coming into play at times.

Re: Hot, Red Ears

Sounds like there are a lot of things that can cause this to happen.
The only one I am familiar with is food allergy, and this is definitely a symptom of that in many cases..

Good luck..

I used to get this all the time too until I realized it was either caffeine that I was drinking at the time or anything red. I'm not sure why these certain liquids do this, but that's what was making my ears red. I have to watch how much Dr. Pepper I drink cause it cause my ears to get real red. Coke doesn't do it to me at all. Weird huh?
