Arrow Metallic taste

Why do I have a metallic taste in my mouth? It tastes like I have been sucking on a penny. I have ate, drank, and brushed my teeth. It will not go away. I do not have allergies nor do I have a cold. Why else would this taste be there?

Re: Metallic taste

People working with brass, in foundries or those welding with steel get a metallic taste. Some people with dentures, dental appliances, and amalgam fillings have a metallic taste. Some drugs, such as antibiotic metronidazole will cause a metallic taste.

People taking chemo sometimes have a problem with metallic taste.

I do know some liquid supplement drinks have a metallic taste too me, Ensure.

Re: Metallic taste

I do not do any of those things. I don't know what it could be.

Re: Metallic taste

I would see your doc as this could indicate many different conditions.I know that in certain kidney conditions, one of the symptoms is the metallic taste in the mouth.i think your doc would be the best judge of what might be causing this.Good luck and keep me posted.Marcia

Re: Metallic taste

There can be several reasons for having a metalic taste in the mouth. Sometimes when you have lots of fillings in your teeth it can produce that taste. You may also need to do what people call detox your body. You may have too many metal toxins in your body. Don't go to a regular Dr. for this problem. They don't have a clue. Go to a naturepath.......or you can go to a health food store or book store and read up on detoxing. Lots of information out there. You can also look on the net.

I get the metalic taste when I juice fast because I'm getting rid of the toxins in my blood. After a few days of juicing its gone.

You know, I'm curious as to what it could be too. I had that same metallic taste in my mouth for about a month. It wasn't really unpleasant, just kinda weird. The only thing that was different in my life at that time was where I was. La Place, LA. The water there is really horrible tasting so most people buy bottled water. But still, I used the regular tap water to brush my teeth and make coffee.....When we left LA. the taste went away. Oh yeah, there was a nuclear power plant there too. I honestly don't know if either of these things caused the metallic taste, I haven't had it since I left. I never figured it out for sure.

Re: Metallic taste

I have been getting that taste alot too lately and can not figure it out! When I drink bottled water (cause that's the only water that I drink) it seems like it makes it worse. I can't determine weather it's a metallic taste or a dry mouth taste. Not sure what the difference is. I do have allergies, but again, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Re: Metallic taste

I did a little research and their can be many reasons for having a mettallic taste in the mouth. An article I found suggested, dental fillings, silver murcury fillings, certain medications, Vit B deficiency, zinc deficiency, bells palsey, strep throat and sjogrens disease.......etc.....

Re: Metallic taste

Hanna,

when you suggest dental fillings and silver fillings, are you talking about 2 different things there? I notice that sometimes when I rub my gums in the back of my mouth where there's not a tooth, it sort of tastes like metal, but, that's the GUM area! hmmm.....anyone else notice that?

Re: Metallic taste

You could have an infected root of one of your teeth and it is leeching infection. Most likely you would have pain too though.

Re: Metallic taste

Could also be a candida (yeast) problem.

Re: Metallic taste

Hey, I just joined and came across your post. I agree with feelbad's reply, just to inform you, I am not trying to scare you but, I would definately get checked out by a doctor as, I know my boyfriend had a metallic taste in his mouth, could not get rid of it, and that is a sign of renal (kidney failure). Do you have other symptoms? Some symptoms are nausea, tiredness, no appetite, shortness of breathe, foamy urine (too much protein). I urge you to see a doctor if you have any of these symptoms. My boyfriend had all these symptoms and never did anything until the last minute, and now he is on dialysis and awaiting a kidney transplant. I do not mean to scare you, I just sincerely believe, you should get this checked out. Please keep me updated. Good luck...

Re: Metallic taste

Feelbad,

You mentioned a kidney condition for a metallic taste. Would the metallic taste be there all the time or can it be off and on?
