Yes. It will also lower your immunity. Don't drink until you're well.

Hmm...I knew dairy products could decrease the effectiveness of antibiotics but I didn't know alcohol could.

Alcohol will certainly lower the effectiveness of antibiotics. If getting healthy and overcoming that UTI is important to you, it is in your best interest to avoid drinking (even small amounts) until you are finished with the antibiotic. Alcohol changes the way your body metabolizes and uses antibiotic drugs, making them less effective.

I suggest you research dairy products online and see what they're all about. I could write a two-hundred page post about dairy products but I won't. The pasteurization is bad for you, period. Dairy can cause mucus production, and it's hard to digest. It's linked to a zillion chronic and fatal illnesses. Some people can tolerate it on a daily basis OK, but it's especially important to avoid it when you're sick!! Please check it out!!!

I'll have to look into that because it feels like I'm chronically ill... and it's taking forever for me to get over bronchitis.

Yes. If you drink you might as well not take the pills. Never heard that about dairy products before. In fact alot of antibiotics say TAKE WITH FOOD OR MILK.

Well...the antibiotic I was thinking of was Cipro...which should not be taken with dairy products. As for whether that rule applies to any other antibiotics...I have no idea.

Also one is not suppose to take antacids with antibiotics. Eliminate refined foods, fruit juices, caffeine, alcohol, and sugar as well. The also interfere. Take the antacids at least two hours before or six hours after taking the antacid to avoid an interaction.
Cipro did nothing for taking the UTI away but did make my stomach turn. I tried bactrim but my UTI's will still not going anywhere.
Cephalexin is about the only one that will rid them for me.
I have narrowed down what gives me my UTI. If I consume to much OJ, or coffee I get them with in a week. I was on meds for 6 months straight till my other doc asked me what I was drinking each day. When I told him he said STOP. So I did and so did the UTI's. ANother thing that gives me a UTI is soaking in the bathtub. Sadly no more baths for me as well.

Also told me to urinate before and after intercourse so that any bacteria that is present will not get pushed into the bladder opening.

It says not to take with antiacids but i was wondering if certain vitamins would affect them at all.Like vtamin E or zinc?

Re: Is it okay to drink alcohol while on antibiotics?

I never even considered that. Good question to think over though. I have some antibiotics now but it is for breathing in black mold. I am not going to start taking them till I take the last birth control pill for this month. Antibiotics have a tendency to cause the birth control pills not to work. I have 5 more days. Guess I should go look around teh net and see what they say about zinc and E.
