Bump on butt-crack

In my butt-crack, there is a bump, it's hard to see but it isn't too large. It hurts sometimes, but not too much. No bleeding or anything. It's location is at the very-top. Any clue to what this might be, suggestions? It is kind of "gushy" kind of like a blister, and seems to have poped, with clean liquid. Sorry if I'm grossing anyone out, but I'm very curious.

There is a thing called a pylinodal cyst....usually known to occur in people of Mediterranean descent which is an infected ingrown hair which takes place in that area. If it popped on it's own that's good because usually a doctor has to cut it and drain it when it gets too big and it is very painful if it isn't drained. I would put some warm compresses on the area so that anything left there comes to a head and keep it clean and apply neosporin inbetween. Good luck...Goody

Yes, it sounds like a cyst to me, too. My sister had a problem with these, and it is not uncommon.

Re: Bump on butt-crack

it sounds like what my friend went through 2 months ago. it eneded up being a cyst that became infected. the doctor in the er drained it, very painful he said. then 2 days later he woke up with a temp of 105. the infection enede spreading through most of his body. he spent 2 weeks in the hospital. i would get it checked out because my friend let it go to long.

Re: Bump on butt-crack

Well I dont know about the cyst theory it sounds like a boil that has pain and looks like a blister and clear fluids come from it just if it was a boil and not a cyst those clear fluids well spread the boils to what ever or whom ever the come in contact with like your bedding needs to be cleaned and disinfected as well as clothing you come in contact with it. Well I hope that it was a cyst and not a boil.

Re: Bump on butt-crack

Actually, a boil is MUCH easier to deal with than a pilonidal cyst. Unless they are recurring, boils are bothersome for a short time and then they typically just go away.

A pilonidal cyst is for LIFE. There is only one way to get rid of it: surgery.

There ARE options for living with this cyst -- but for those who have it and end up experiencing extreme pain, surgery is a better solution.

Pilonidal cysts can present themselves in many different ways, from being only slightly annoying to going into long periods of remission to causing extreme pain, drainage and discomfort several times a year.

Only about half of all pilonidal cysts contain hair inside of them -- there is much debate as to what causes them. Yes, hair inside the cyst may have started out as an infected follicle, but in those cases where there is no hair inside at all, it is thought that perhaps there is a genetic component -- and also that extended stresses on the coccyx may help to induce these cysts.

And semantically speaking -- they aren't even really "true" cysts at all, though a small percentage of them are.

I have posted numerous times about pilonidal cysts -- go see some of those discussions for more detailed information. It's pointless to get more in depth here and now until this person has a diagnosis.

Go see your doc -- all he has to do is look at the area to know if it is a pilonidal cyst or something else.

Re: Bump on butt-crack

I had the exact same thing, it hurt so much to sit. I guess it was some sort of cyst, the doc gave me some antibiotics and it went away! Hasn't returned since!

Re: Bump on butt-crack

Regime:

To clarify -- IF your condition was a pilonidal cyst, it had NOT gone away. It is in remission and currently not infected. That's GREAT news. It may never bother you again -- or it may flare-up at any time in the future. Antibiotics do NOT cure a pilonidal cyst. The infection may go away, but the cyst remains.

If you did not have a pilonidal cyst -- that's even better news. Probably you had a common boil or severely infected hair follicle that was easily treated.

But please make no mistake. Pilonidal cysts do NOT go away on their own. They may go into remission and stop causing problems for a patient if that person is very lucky, but they will never just vanish.
