I have a what I think to be called a "dull" pain that has not gone away for one minute in my lower left side of my stomach or abdomen. Not sure which one to call it. It's not a stomach ache. It's just something that is there and has not gone away for 48hrs straight now. Any ideas what this may be. I have only gotten 3 and 4 hours sleep the last 2 days respectively. It's not super painful, but it is enough that I know about it and it is bothering me. I still have my appendix. Though I thought the appendix was on the right side.
I have had bowel movements. They have been more runny than firm. But I wouldn't call it, super runny. it had some shape. I'm hoping to hold off til monday to see a doctor instead of waiting for ER. What can happen with the colon if i wait?
Go the ER. If you still have your appendix, this could be radiating pain from the appendix to the lower left quadrant of your abdomen. Forty-eight hours of unrelieved pain that is significant enough to distrupt your sleep is not normal. If you do not have your appendix, then it could be any number of things none of which can be diagnosed with blood work and x-rays. CS
Sounds to me like it could be Diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is a pouch in your intestines usually on the lower left side, that becomes inflamed because of food particles that become lodged or trapped in it. I had this same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. It started out as a dull pain feeling something like trapped gas. As a few days went by the pain got worse and became somewhat sharper. (I actually thought it was from eating chili a few days prior!) We were to go on a cruise with our kids and their quests the next day. Everyone knew something was wrong with me. When we got off our plane in Washington D.C. to catch the next plane to Miami, I went down. Along with anxiety from flying the pain took me over and next thing I knew I was being wheeled into the terminal in a wheelchair with paramedics all around me. I was taken to the nearest hospital by life squad where they put me through a battery of tests. Concluding that diverticulitis was found. I was put on 2 different antibiotics and pain killers and was told to start eating more fiber. Needless to say, I missed the cruise. I have had one more bout of diverticulitis since then but did not have to go to the hospital. Dont let this go. If it gets too serious to the point where antibiotics wont help then surgery is the next step. This involves taking out a section of the intestine. Please go to your doctor to be sure.
I appreciate both replies and will look into it. The question is just if I can hold out till monday to go to see a doctor instead of waiting at the ER. And just to clear things up, I do have my appendix. Sorry I did not inform earlier. I tried looking it up on a diagram, and I "thought" the appendix was on the right side. When I say right side, I mean closer to my right hand. If someone can concur, let me know
Sorry I gave you that advice and then disappeared. I am having trouble with my eyes and sometimes I just have to do something else for a while. Have trouble reading on in in certain light. I will be ok. Having surgery 5/4.
Back to your problem. I don't want to really scalre you but my husband had similar problems in the left side. Went on from a Tuesday to Friday before he went to ER. He was having problems having a bowel movement but felt that he needed to ... then he felt like he needed to pass gas and couldn/t.
It was colon cancer, they operated that Friday, It had alread done too much damage. He was very sick for a few weeks, then started cemo, then they told us it had gone to liver. He lived 5 more years.
What was my point? - this was really silent - until that week.
Take care and go to ER.
