burned roof of mouth

...recently, i drank a very hot cup of chocolate, and it blistered the roof of my mouth. at first, i had the damaged skin peeling from my mouth, but now i have what feels to be a little hole at the top of my mouth...very painful. it's preventing me from eating and drinking some things, so i haven't eaten hardly anything in the past several days. does anyone have any suggestions? is oragel ok to use, or should i see a doctor? i got a friend to look at it and he said that it looked like there was a pink oval at the top of my mouth with a little dent in it...it's been 5 days.

Re: burned roof of mouth

It takes longer than 5 days for a burn in the mouth to heal. Most likely the oval spot is a deeper burn and will take longer to heal. If you are worried, see your dentist.

Re: burned roof of mouth

I would use the mouthwash Peroxyl - it's over the counter and would help with any infection that could occur. I think it's made by Cologate.

Re: burned roof of mouth

it would be a good idea to take something to prevent an infection. but any wounds in your mouth heal extremely fast because of the moisture so you shouldn't have to put up with this for very long.

Re: burned roof of mouth

Oragel would be okay, but the quickest way to heal any sort of open sore areas in the mouth really, is by swishing your mouth several times a day with salt water.i don't know just why this works but it does.it also helps to soothe the area.At first it may sting but that goes away pretty quickly.FB
