Does anyone else have a problem when they get a sunburn (even a minor one) that about 2 days after it itches severely?
I have been sunburned - I have very fair, Irish, skin and burn even with sunscreen - twice this year and both times I have had such severe itching that it made me bawl crying. This happened Saturday night and my poor b/f was ready to take me to the hospital.
I have never had this before this summer...am I just weird or is there anyone else like this?
I have had that before. I am very fair skinned and I got burned and the next evening the itching got so bad that I felt like I had bugs crawling on me, I took a scorching hot shower (on top of sun-burn) and it didn't even hurt cause I itched so much. I went to the emergency room and found out I had sun-poison. And this happened 6yrs ago and I have never sunbathed again. I do sunless all the way.
I always get itchiness a couple days after a bad sunburn. I always figured it was caused by the healing process. My skin always itches whenever it's healing--whether after a sunburn or surgery or even a cut or scrape. You might try an aloe-based or oatmeal-based lotion. But a severe sunburn needs to be seen by a doctor. Remember to drink plenty of water.
I also have fair skin that can itch when I get sunburned. I got a mild sunburn on vacation this year and rubbed some Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion into the burn every night. My skin didn't itch at all and I never even peeled. The burn just healed without any problems. Mind you this was a mild sunburn..a bad burn with severe itching should be checked out by a doctor.
I get the same thing from tanning, use hydrocortisone cream 1% apply to effected areas, it should take care of the itching. If it persists, you should see your doctor.
