Question Hung out with somebody infected with mono

Hi everybody. My friend has had mono for a few weeks and she said that she was feeling a lot better and has hung out with a lot of people already, so we decided to hang out. While we were haning out I completely forgot that she was still infected with mono and hugged her, and we took lots of pictures so our faces got pretty close together. She also accidently spit a tiny bit on my face, but I wiped it off so it didn't get in my mouth, and we ate off of the same plate. I thought that it could only be passed though saliva, but then I just did some research and it said that it can also be passed just through close contact like the flu. When we got home we took some vitamin C and elderberry, though I'm not sure if that will do anything. I really doubt that I'm going to catch it, but is there anything else I can be doing to prevent it, and do you think the vitamin C and elderberry would do anything? Thanks in advance!

Edit: I'm a little more worried about my sister though, because our friend grabbed some crackers and handed them to her, then she ate them and she's been touching her mouth earlier. Plus she went on her computer...

While mono can be contagious for several months after the infected person feels better, I doubt that you engaged in enough activies to get it yourself. Mono is usually spread through direct exchange of fluids.

I agree... One of my good friends had a severe case of mono, and I was over his house everyday, cooking and cleaning for him. We shared food and everything, and I dind't catch it.. So chances are you won't.

Re: Hung out with somebody infected with mono

unless you and your friend were sharing something like a drink or something that could have had her saliva on it then having you take a bite/drink of it, then you have nothing to worry about.

But just so you know. Your friend will ALWAYS be a carrier for mono. Dont ever share a drink or a bite of anything with them unles you know that you may become infected in mono...because once infected with mono you become a carrier for life...
