Do common warts spread to genitals?

Okay. I've read online that man that has common warts on his hand CANNOT give them to his woman if he is 'fingering her'. Is this true? Also, if a guy has warts on his hands, common warts, can he spread them to his penis while showering?

Is there a actual difference in type and probablity of infection between common warts and genital warts or does it just depend on what region of the body the warts are on?

If I wash my hands often will that help prevent the spreding of warts?

I've honestly practically destroyed my fingers puttng wart medicine on them. If I had warts they are more than likely long since dead.

Re: Do common warts spread to genitals?

steven527, are you sure that these are "common warts". the HPV virus is a very common virus effecting up to 70% of the population and causes warts any where on the body (including the hands). They are VERY EASILY spread elsewhere on your body and to others. When they are spread to the genital area they are called genital warts or anal warts. Normally these warts are harmeless and considered a nusance only however in women they are associated with an increase in cervical cancer. This very contagious STD may or may not cause warts but if warts are present they can be identified under a UV light (black light). The warts will appear as white areas contrasted against normal uneffected skin.

Re: Do common warts spread to genitals?

I've never had sexual contact with anyone to have anything other than common warts.
I've been to a dermatologist who has examined them and frozen them. She never said they were anything but normal warts. I was also examined in my private area and have no warts there. I was examined by my normal doctor, a urologist and a dermatologist and none of them said I had warts 'down below'.

Re: Do common warts spread to genitals?

I hope it is okay to post this here. I found this information

"General Questions

Q. What is the difference between genital HPV infections and infections caused by HPV that are found on other parts of the body?

A. Some types of HPV produce common skin warts on various parts of the body, including plantar warts on the feet and common hand warts. Of the more than 100 types of HPV that have been identified, about 30 are sexually transmitted and infect the genital area, including the cervix (or opening to the uterus), vagina, vulva, anus and penis. All are viruses, with slight differences in their structure.

Q. Are the warts on your hand the same as the sexually transmitted type?

A. No. All warts are caused by papillomaviruses, but each type of HPV grows only on specific areas of the body."

I'd post a link to it but I don't know if that is allowed?

This info makes me feel a lot better.

MsMandy I have had them frozen but they didn't die completely, some did, others didn't so I've been fighting them with compound w and it seems to be working. I just hope im not damaging my skin with that stuff.

Re: Do common warts spread to genitals?

There are a few kinds of warts. Plantar warts are found on the feet. There flesh-colored or light brown lumps with tiny black dots in them. The dots are, clotted blood vessels. Genital warts are most common types from STD's They are on your genitals, your pubic area or in the canal of your anus. For women they can grow in the the vagina.
Flat warts are small and smoother than other warts. You find them alot on face or legs. I've read they're more common in kids and teens instead of adults. Common warts look small, fleshy, and have a rough texture to them.

If they are present you can spread them. Once they are in remission it's safe. A 2006 report said you can get them from touching a towel or an object used by someone who has an active outbreak of warts. Just because you can catch it like that does not automatically mean that you will have warts pop up on you. Peoples immune system is different and some fight the virus off better than others so they do not develop warts.

My childhood friend had them all over her hands and legs. Her knees were riddled with them. At one time she had 30 frozen off. The derm told her it was from using cinnamon oil. We use to make our own cinnamon flavored tooth picks. How true that is I have no idea. We were 8 yrs old. I don't know if HPV was known about back then.
