Im 16 years old and about 4 months ago i noticed a hard bump on the back of my head. The bump is hard about 1 square inch and sticks out of my head about 1 cm. It does not hurt when touched and has not bothered me, but since last week i have had a strange feeling around the area where the bump is.
Does anyone have any ideas what this is or if i should go get it looked at by a doctor?
I have two, one on each side. I am 46 years old and have had them for as long as I can remember. About a year ago the one of the left side got really sore (not the first time one of them became sore though) and I found about two weeks later that I had a sinus infection on that side. For the first time I told my doctor about them and was told they are lymph glands. This is the reason for the soreness when I got the sinus infection. So, I agree. It is probably not serious, but if the lump is feeling different right now you might want to get it checked out. It could be an infection somewhere in your body.
Yes, a sore throat could cause your lymph nodes (glands) to swell. There a ton of things that can cause them to swell (you can find tons of info if you do an internet search on the subject). I had it happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Up until that point I didn't even know we had glands on the back of our heads! Until the left side swelled up and was EXtremely painful for me. I couldn't even lay down. At the same time I had a canker sore in my bottom lip. It turns out that even canker sores can be the cause of swollen glands! Who knew!!!
Do keep an eye on your sore throat though... Sore throat and swollen glands are the two main signs of strep throat. If it doesn't start getting better soon you probably want to see a doctor and have a strep culture done.
