abdominal pain sent me to the er

Last night I went to the ER with severe abdominal pain. It started in the afternoon aroung 3. The best way to describe is that I would get a wave of severe pain in the center of my adbomen (near the belly button). I was also very cold - had a slight fever. I thought either appendix or gall bladder. My blood and urine results were normal according to the dr. My x-rays should that my instestines were full. I was also extremely bloated. I was given a pain shot, but still felt the waves of pain through the shot even though it was better.

I was given a laxative to take which has cleaned me out. I am still having the waves of pain. The only concern is that I did not get an ultrasound. I was told by mom that a gall bladder problem won't show up on a x-ray. My mom has had both her gall bladder (with a significant anout of stones) and apendix removed, so I do have a history.

I am going to see how I do tomorrow, but if I am still having pains I am going to go see my primary care dr.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Re: abdominal pain sent me to the er

Hi,
Your gallbladder is up higher near your heart, not near your belly button. You would have chest pain or pain in your upper back. I have had gallbladder attacks that is how I know. I also would get a water mouth.
If it is your appendix not getting treatment could be serious. You need to find out what is causing your pain. I can't believe they didn't help you more in the ER.
The only other things I can think your pain might be caused from. Is a kidney stone or a female related problem. Such as a ovarian cyst or Endometriosis. Did you have any other symptoms? You should get seen by a doctor right away though to be sure. Sense you had a fever it could be an infection maybe.

Re: abdominal pain sent me to the er

Thanks for the info. I went to see my regular dr. today. She ordered a blood test that she have been done in the ER, but wasn't. It will detect abnormal levels for the pancreas or gall bladder. The pain has decreased but it feels as thought I have a weight sitting on my left side just under my rib cage. I am also going to get an upper abdominal ultrasound. Hopefully I will get that done sooner rather than later.

Re: abdominal pain sent me to the er

I just talked to the dr's office and my counts were normal in my blood. That's good. I am scheduled for the ultrasound on Monday afternoon. The worst part is that I have to fast for 8 hours prior to that. Not really looking forward to that.
