Gritty coating in mouth

ok- totally gross, but recently I have noticed a sort of gritty/fine sand like feeling in my mouth. as in my cheeks, under my tounge, even the back of my lips. i have been using listerine and this helps a little, but does not rid the problem. when i look at it, i can not see anything (no discoloration or white patches) any ideas?

Re: Gritty coating in mouth

How often are you brushing? How many times a day are you using the listerine? When you brush do you brush your gums, tongue, etc....? Is there an actual SUBSTANCE in your mouth or is just a feeling? Sorry so many questions....just trying to get a better idea of what is going on...

Re: Gritty coating in mouth

Gritty feeling in the mouth is usually due to dry mouth. Are you on any new medications that could be causing this?

Re: Gritty coating in mouth

no, i am not on any medications at all. I brush 2x per day Listerine with the brushing and sometimes just to freshen my mouth. I also noticed a pimple like thing on the underneath of my tounge. I have been under A LOT of stress as of late, I wonder if it is connected.

Re: Gritty coating in mouth

If you are experiencing dry eyes, you may want to look into sjogren's syndrome.

I think a trip to the dentist or doctor would be prudent.

Re: Gritty coating in mouth

I agree - I would check in with a dentist or doctor. You could call both and find out which you should see for this type of situation before you actually set up an appointment with either...
