Adults and Thrush??????? - General Health Message Board

As an adult has anyone ever gotten thrush???I have gotten it twice since the last six months..Is that normal??

I must admit, i get it quite often. But namely because my Diabetes is sometimes, not controlled properly.

Yeah... I would get tested for diabetes. Also, antibiotics can predispose you to a thrush infection. I think some immune diseases can increase susceptibility, too. So you should definitely bring it up to your doctor, as it might be a sign of an underlying condition.

Thrush is an overproduction of yeast, which usually happens when the normal, or good, bacteria are in such low numbers that the yeast quickly grows and takes over the bacterias' 'territory' . This can occur (for example) when a person is on antibiotics. One thing I have noticed is that when an adult, especially an older adult or an immuno compromised adult is diagnosed with thrush, they often get it again or it just doesn't seem to go away.

Maybe a doctor can prescribe you something for it.

You might want to try to eat yogurt on a regular basis , like everyday if you really want to try to get rid of the yeast for the long run. Yeast is all over the body, just like bacteria, and both microbes are very "opprotunistic". This means that when one of them is in lower numbers then the other one will try to compete for resources. This is how the yeast got control and your good bacteria got kicked out of it's normal living space.

I would try to get the yeast in check by getting more "good" bacteria in your system. Most all yogurt will assist you in this task. Yogurt has a small note on the side of the container that says it has "live and active cultures". That just means it has live and active "good" bacteria in it.
