Bathroom Breaks: What Is Considered Normal?

Just curious, and excuse the stupid question, but how often are we supposed to use the bathroom? Every two hours? What is the norm?

I don't have a problem, but we are told to drink 9 cups of water/liquids a day, and the more I drink, the more I have to go! Sometimes twice an hour - is this normal? But I usually go every 2 hours.

if you are drinking that much water, then yes it's normal. I go at least that if I'm drinking a lot of water all day.

Re: Bathroom Breaks: What Is Considered Normal?

9 cups of water/liquids is kind of a generalization. it's kind of an average, not exactly what every person should have. kind of like someone who is 5'9, 215 lbs would need more water than someone who is 5'1, 95 lbs. basically to find out how much water you need a day you need to drink enough to where your urine is clear. as long as your urine is clear you have been drinking enough water. unless you take medication that turns your urine strange colors, like some vitamins turn your urine colors. also people who have boring desk jobs such as myself would need less water than someone working an on-your-feet-all-day type of job.

^ yep.. the other thing to remember is we get portions of that water from other drinks.. fruit drinks, even coffee count. And some foods such as soups provide water towards that total amount.

And, mentioning coffee - anything with caffeine in it will make you need the toilet more, as caffeine is a diuretic.

Re: Bathroom Breaks: What Is Considered Normal?

like they said, basically it comes down to just how much you take in.if for some reason, the two don't seem to 'match' like if you are going alot more often than what you would think is the norm or if you are not putting out alot of urine compared to what you take in,those are things that would require evaluation from your doc to see why there isn't that match.Or if you suddenly should feel thirsty all the time, that can indicate underlying metabolic issues.but if you feel you are probably, like that average person, there probably is not any sort of problem.

is there a specific reason that you asked this question or just curious?FB
