Dont know where to post? you have a blood test and your liver comes back raised??
Does anyone know what it means if you have a blood test and your liver comes back raised?? I am feeling a bit short of breath but probably due to recent bad flu. Anyway i still feel something is not right and doc is sending me to see a heart doc, but my blood test showed raised liver?? she asked if i drink but i dont, my thyroid is under again so am on 150mg thyroxine. also my colestrol was a little bit high, and also my platelet were raised again, they keep raising steadily then will come down a bit but do not raise drastically high. I also have a few ulcers appear near my butt, i know it sounds funny but it is agony as i cannot go to the loo AT ALL!!! I feel absolutely run down and get short of breath sometimes. dr has put me on 75mg asprin a day, estatin( i think for colestrol) i am on a 2 week course of sporanex pulse( i think in case it is a yeast/thrush problem,on my butt). I sometimes get a heavy chest ache, but was checked out for this 2 years ago and heart doc said everything was fine and to stop worry about it and get on with life. But if i get too worried or hurt in someway i get this bad chest ache and i have to rub my chest for a few hours as it hurts, also lots of palpitations and quick heart beat? any ideas anyone.
Have you actually even gotten any sort of an actual diagnosis of all these symptoms yet?you DO have quite a few very prominant type of symptoms that really need much further evaluation.
A 'raised' liver,I am assuming is a raise in the enzymes, most likely one or all of the following,AST,ALT.or the alk phos.these are the best indicators of liver function.my son has these checked once a month ever since his liver transplant almost seven years ago.
I would think that your doc would be a bit more concerned about you as a patient than to just tell you something like to stop worrying and get on with life??whats up with that?i DO think a brand new doc with a fresh perspective is really what you need the most right now, really.it does not appear that your current one really actually cares much.the first thing you should do here is obtain a copy of the labs thatwere recently done on you to see just what is actually 'raised" or out of range on all of your labs.getting ALL of your medical records from this doc and going thru them really would help to give at least a bit clearer picture of what this so called doc has been thinking with regard to your overall condition.those clinic notes that he makes after every appt with you would really help just to read thru them and see what he thinks and just how seriously he is actually taking your particular medical issues.
all you have to do is either the next time you are there or even better, just make a phone call to that docs office and ask them to send out a "release of information" for you to sign and send back to them.this will release to you,all of your medical records, and make sure to specify that you want ALL,every single copy of every possible document in your medical file.this would also include copies of all of your lab work.they have usually some sort of company that will come into any docs office like once a week or so just for this reason,to copy medical files for patients.within usually about a week or even less, you will recieve this big old envelope in your mail containing the medical records.
I have many many bizarre medical problems and so does my son,I HAVE to get copies of all of our medical records like every six months just in order to stay on top of it all.
you really do deserve to know whats up with your health.this doc really does not sound like he is really motivated at all to even try and do that for you.find a new doc who will. There are docs out there who are very very caring and will go that extra mile for you just to find the answers about your health issues.I have been pretty lucky there with all the many differnt specialists i have had to see over the years.you just deserve much better treatment than you have been getting, and you just HAVE to find out what is actually going on inside of your own body.good luck and please keep me posted on anything you find out,K? Thanks for your reply, my dr is a very good dr, it was the heart consultant that said go away and stop worrying. The trouble is now i have shortness of breath my dr is sending me to the same heart constultant again. And i know he will just take the attitude, ' oh i tested her before and she is alright and probably send me away again. My own g.p. ( dr) has asked me to go back in one month and have a blood test done again to see if my liver count is still raised( i dont know exactly what was raised as over here in England they dont tell you anything) I do worry but who wouldn't, mum had a heart problem but as she died young i dont know what it was, also she had angina. Dad is currently terminally ill with **** and heart failure. the thing is that i dont understand what a raised liver count is, i hardly ever drink, have a terribly hectic life, ( i have a disabled child) i know what high cholestrol means, and the asprin should help my raised platelet count. I suppose i will learn more when i go back next month and have another blood test.
Thanks once again
Hi willowthewisp. Sometimes shortness of breath and heart symptoms can be thyroid related. Have you had thyroid tests done recently? You may need an adjustement in your meds. How long have you been on the current dose?
When you are tested, ask that they also test the Free T3, Free T4 (besides T3 and T4) in addition to the TSH. You should also have thyroid antibody tests done. These are not always done but are necessary for a comprehensive view.
I suggest you post this on the thyroid board at this site. It is a great board. When you get your results you may want to post them there for opinions.
Is it your liver enzymes that are elevated? I think there can be many causes for it. I have Lyme disease which can sometimes cause this. Milk Thistle is a supplement you can get that can help normalize liver enzymes. You may want to ask your doctor if you could take it.
A LOT of illnesses will cause your liver enzymes to be raised, an infectious disease doc told me that it really doesn't pinpoint anything at all. He also said that unless they're raised for a while, it's really no cause for concern. He said even the flu or other minor illnesses can raise them temporarily, and unless they are 2x or 3x the lab's normal range, it's really not that out of whack. So, it's just something they will test again to make sure they go back down.
