Pillow imprints on face/skin staying for hours :'(

Does anyone know what property of the skin would cause this?

When I wake up in the morning, I have the crease marks of the pillow in my face and it stays there for hours. This has only just started. Normally I wouldn't notice anything on my face at all.

It's not just when I wake up, but also in the day if I lean on something, etc. I am 20 years old. Is anyone able to help me with what could be causing this? Please help!!!

Thanks!

My first guess would be that your skin isn't hydrated enough. Do you drink plenty of water?

I would at least try changing your pillowcase to one that doesn't bunch up so much to leave marks. You could be sleeping like that for 5 hours so I can imagine it'll take a while to go away.

Find a softer pillowcase with a higher threat count.

Thanks for the reply. My pillowcase is fine. The problem is associated with my hands and arms feeling numb the second I begin to fall asleep. I was just thinking if I aproached the problem from this angle it may help to figure it out.

Re: Pillow imprints on face/skin staying for hours :'(

I had the same problems. With me, it ended up being mitral valve prolapse, sounds bad and like it's a heart problem, but it's really not. It's a blood volume problem, so basically you are dehydrated. Your body tries to compensate in all sorts of ways, by making your heart go faster, by producing hormones to make it go faster (this results in the marks, one of the hormones is extra cortisol, that causes that). Basically, you're dehydrated because you don't have enough electrolytes, so your body compensates by releasing more water, so the electrolytes you do have won't be as diluted. So, the solution for me was to take in more salt (use sea salt since it's got a mix of electrolytes in proper balance rather than just sodium). I just mix some in to my water occassionally, especially if I feel like anything's starting to go numb. Has fixed all my problems, amazingly. You can't hydrate yourself just by taking in water if this is the problem, your kidneys are just going to immediately release it. You need the extra electrolytes to tell your kidneys to hold on to the water (it's all about the balance of water and electrolytes).

I tried a lot of things before this, and this is what finally worked, and it was so simple and cheap. I was glad I finally found the answer, but a little mad that I had spent so much time and money before on things that were totally unnecessary.
