Pain when swallowing - General Health Message Board

Hi there,

I have a pain when swallowing. Both liquids and solids. It isn't a sore throat. It's on the left side of my throat inside my mouth. I don't believe it's my lymph nodes either. Someone said it might be a blocked saliva gland? I don't know if it's my tonsils or anything like that? The pain has been going on all this weekend and stays constant. It is actually very uncomfortable. How do I know what it is?

Could this be connected to my ear in someway?

Well, i have no clue at all. But just giving you a heads up, the last two times i woke up in the morning with difficulties swallowing anything, the first time it turned out to be pneumonia a week later, and the second time it was bronchitis a week later.

Not saying thats what you have, just giving you a heads up that it may be more serious than you think.

I had what sounds similar and it turned out to be a canker sore. Mine was quite small -- thin, and hidden in the tonsil area -- and could only be seen if you REALLY looked hard. My doctor could see it (after several attempts) but dentist could not! Have a look way at the back where the pain is and see if you find anything that looks whitish with pink or red edges. The darn thing took 6 weeks to go away.

By the way, gargling with salt water really does help with all types of pains in the mouth.

The first thing that came to mind was stepth throat, I probaly spelled that wrong. I use to get it constantly til I got my wisdom teeth taken out.

kitkat- Last night before I went to bed, I tried again to look in my mouth. When I moved my tongue I did see a small sore and when I touched that spot, I could feel that this sore was causing the pain. This is so odd! I never had a canker sore back that far before! Guess anything's possible because I do get a lot of canker sores and the like..
