Polychromasia & Anisocytosis??

What is Polychromasia & Anisocytosis? If they show up in lab work? Labs also show giant platelets are present..What does all of this mean?

Re: Polychromasia & Anisocytosis??

It could mean iron deficiency, or a mixed deficency. Are you anemic? Basically, the anisocytosis means your red blood cells vary in size more than expected, and the polychromasia means they vary in color more than expected. Platelet size can be affected by iron deficiency. That is what my blood looks like--except that my platelets vary in size, large and small. Did the report mention what any of the red blood cells look like? Specifically, what shape? Acanthocytes are often found in iron deficiency. Any other details from the report? I have been researching like crazy trying to learn about this stuff, I will answer any questions I can.

Re: Polychromasia & Anisocytosis??

The elevated WBC indicates some sort of infection I think. I don't know how high it has to be before they start worrying about other things. Giant platelets can occur with bleeding. Try googling "elevated neutrophils." You might also try the eosinophils and basophils. Sorry I can't be more help, it is only my RBC's and platelets that are out of whack number wise.

Do you have a follow up Dr. appointment? You will read all types of scary stuff on the web, ask a lot of questions of your medical provider and try not to freak out. So far, every self-diagnosis I have given myself has turned out to be wrong Keep talking to your medical provider. Let us know how you are doing.
