Exclamation Help! Boyfriend has body numbness and tounge swelling-can someone help me with this?

My boyfriend, for at least a month or more, has been complaining of certain parts of his body being numb, like the back of his neck, his foot, the left side of his face, etc. He has been linking it to his tounge, which has been swelling lately, and he believes its due to the fact that 3 years ago when he got it pierced he tried to gauge it (the piercing in his tounge). If he does anything at all having to do with his tounge, like talking for a long period of time, singing (he's in a band), smoking, etc. it starts to swell. Then after that he talks about the parts of his body being numb. So is it possible that him trying to gauge his tounge is causing this body numbness?? Perhaps he hit a nerve or something?? I'm really very concerned cause it is really taking its toll and he hasn't been himself at all lately. He has mentioned going to see a nurse at his school or a doctor but they usually say its stress related, but I'm really not sure. It worries me a lot , I just hope its nothing serious or anything and nothing is being done about it. If anyone can give me any information at all I would appreciate it soooooo much, thank you and I hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks.

I think he needs to see a Doctor with the symptoms you say he has. If he has numbness and part of his face is numb and his tongue is swelling that could veery well be a stroke. I am no Doctor, but thhat is the way my Dad did when he had his stroke. You didn't mention his age or if his speech was slurred, but I would most definently get him to a Doctor ASAP! Keep us updated and I sure hope he will be alright.

Thank you so much for your input! I will definately give him an update and tell him to go to a doctor ASAP! He is only 22 and I haven't noticed any speech slurring or anything like that and its sooo hard for me to drag him to a doctor cause hes 9 hours away in grad school! I will definately keep you updated and thank you so much again for your input.
