Pain and tingling in my head

For the past three months, I've felt some weird things in my head. It began with my forehead and face feeling rather tight, and I was told it was due to tension, even though I was not tense or stressing. It's not as much pain as it is a feeling of my skin being pulled. This feeling also tends to move around on my forehead - some days I feel it near my hairline, some days it's right between my eyes and all the way down to the tip of my nose, and some days it takes over my entire forehead. As I type, the entire top half of my face feels numb as if I'd just come in from freezing weather and like the skin is being pulled. Not pain...just tightness.

I also tend to get the occasional tingling and slight pain around my eyes. Between this and the tingling between my eyes and in my nose, I would like to assume it's a sinus infection. But my sinuses don't explain a couple other ***arre things I feel. Another thing that started happening recently is the back of my head will feel tingly - as in the top of my head in the back. When I press down on that part of my head, sometimes it feels slightly sore, almost like I bumped my head (which I haven't done). Again, this isn't pain, but tingling. I've also had this problem where my right ear will feel like it needs to pop and it won't. Being in a moving vehicle for long periods of time worsens it tenfold - I had to pull over five times when on a 5-hour road trip last weekend because my head felt like it was going to explode. I don't know if it's coincidental or not that the pressure only occurs in the ear that I had two infections in over three months ago. All of this pain and tingling is resistant to aspirin too.

Here's what I don't understand: The tension-like headaches I feel mostly during the day, and the tingling in my head and pressure in my ears I only feel at night. None of my pain or tingling is one-sided - it's all either bilateral or in the center of the affected area. I assume because of the location of the pain that this is not a brain problem.

Any idea what could be causing all this stuff? Could it be a back problem? I tend to wake up with a sore neck and back because my pillows aren't the best. I can't imagine a sinus infection would cause tingling on the back of my head, but I could be wrong. Is it a possibility that it could just be nerves, perhaps a damaged or pinched nerve? I'm not worried nearly as much as I'm annoyed by it all.

Edited to add: I've been looking for potential causes of the forehead tightness via internet search, and I would like to add that I'm very certain this is not due to carbon monoxide poisoning because no one else who shares my living quarters feels this way. Most of my search results listed tightness in the forehead as a symptom of CO poisoning, but I know that's not the case with me.

Re: Pain and tingling in my head

okay, here goes.have you actually had all of these symptoms evaluated at any time?was this just sort of a sudden onset or did this just start with the forehead stuff and then go from there?the thing is,what you are describing really sounds like what are called'parasthesias"these are just really strange wierd and sometimes ***arre sensations caused by nerve affectation stemming from somewhere.usually it is stemming from the spine at some level.it IS possible to facial stuff stemming from a C spine problem.believe me,i get ALOT of really freaky crap happen mostly around my nose, mouth and in my jaw that are all stemming from a really messed up c spine.i can get anything from tingling/numbness to a heat sensation on my nose.this is all coming from my c spine.you have a couple of cranial nerves that actually go from the head and down into the c spine then they loop back up into the head again,so anything is possible toactually have in your face from the c spine.

I think your next move here would be to just see your primary doc and ask to have an MRI done on your c spine to see whats up in there.then a possible refferal to a good neurosurgeon for a full neuro eval.i would totally skip any neurologist for your particular issues since a neurosurgeon really IS the best place for you.not actually for any surgery(or maybe there would be)but personally after having dealt with plenty of both specialists over the years for my many ongoing spinal and head issues, i just feel that the majority of neurologists just cannot compare with the overall knowledge and the experience that a good NS has.

but getting that MRI for you right now is really the best next step.don't settle for a CT as this will not go down into the cord level.there is always the slim possibility that you could have some sort of malformation inside the cord.i did and didn't have a clue til an MRI just happened to pick it up while i was having the MRI to see how badly i had herniated a particular disc.it was just 'there' inside my cord.but you DO need to see down to that level in order to get the best overall look at the whole c spine.also getting the MRI on your head needs to be looked at too.there is always the possibility that some strange or wierd thing is going on in there too.considering the ear issues, well you want to cover all your bases.

just see your primary about all your symptoms and ask about getting a full head and c spine MRI.this would not be in any way out of line when considering your ongoing symptoms and where they are actually located.but this really DOES need to be done.so,make that appt and go from there.please keep me posted as to what you find out,K? good luck,FB

Re: Pain and tingling in my head

When the tension headaches began a few months back, I went to the emergency room because I'd never felt that kind of tightness in my face and I thought something was seriously wrong with me. They told me it was due to anxiety and possibly a sinus infection starting.

However, the eye pressure, ear pressure, and scalp pain all just started about 7-10 days ago. I've been looking for information since last night and I'm becoming convinced that I could have TMJ because all the symptoms I'm feeling are symptoms of TMJ and I can't imagine it would only be a coincidence I have so many symptoms of it and not have it.

In any case, I do intend to speak to my doctor after the holidays and see what she has to say because I don't know how well I'm going to be able to function in school when classes start again. Thank you for all your input, feelbad; I'll make sure I keep you updated if I find anything out.
